Default Hey HT users

Just wanted to say Hi to every1 here on HT,

I have just recently bought my second car (which is garbage) due to the fact that my 92 integra failed our local emissions test! I was told my engine needs a rebuild, the compression results were pretty bad at 165-150-155-110.

I have plans on giving the rebuild a shot by my self. I was wondering is plastigauging is enough of a measure to take when checking clearances on the bearings?

I found some posts that say you should use proper tools and not rely on plastigauging, does this apply only to very high revving engines? would I be ok since all I have is an lsv that I only take to mid 7k's at the most? (yeah like 7k isnt high LOL)

My next question is, everybody here is very happy with acl bearings but it seems they are only available in greens? how does this happen? what if my clearances are far out from greens? is there anything wrong with using honda bearings? what about the colours, what if I had two greens and two browns? should I then have the crank machined so that I can have all 4 clearances close, like all greens or browns or is it ok as is?

and finally,I am no engine builder however I think Iam mechanically inclined and would like to have a part within the build myself therefore I want to do the assembly on my own!

what are steps I should take? I planned to have the block hot tanked, honed, have the crank cleaned, machined and balanced, then check clearances and proceed with the assembly by following steps givin in articles like the one for the b16 bottom end build in the eg faq section?

The only things I want to add to my build are b16 pistons and arp head studs, what else would you recommend, please note cost is a factor Iam only 19 and money aint earned easy!
