ITR = extinction
WRX = mass production
i'm not sure whether or not you'll like the wrx more but one day, if you wanna get the ITR again, you'll definitely regret buying the wrx

You have been on this board long enough to see what we all go thru owning a R. As for the WRX its a mass produced automobile, which does not make it a bad car but in the terms of stolen, crashed, hate, love, options and many many more things including Insurance You will have a easier time owning a WRX.
I hope i have made a point, and also hope that you can see what I'm saying...
ps.
ITR = love and hate, FUN
WRX= easy and fun

Everyday you hear of more ITR's being stolen or crashed....... sad to hear since there weren't many produced.....
For me I looked at many different cars (WRX,Celica GTS,RSX Type-S,Honda Civic SiR,Nissan Maxima) and relized i'd rather look for a ITR still than drive any of those others...... my dad on the other hand loves the Impreza wrx.... he's planning on buying 1 soon and he used to be one of those hotrod muscle heads growing up...... oh when my dad rod in the R he thought it was a 6cycl 250hp/200tq car.... I told him I4 195/130 fwd and he was amazed.......

Your dad will like the WRX alot cause it is a turbo car and reacts to mods incredibly (easy to gain hp/trq).
I grew up with Hondas and just like the Chevy/Ford guys, I will stay loyal to Honda for a while simply because I like reliability and handling over raw hp.
In a perfect world, the ITR would have came on a chasis with a completely different layout (ie, not an easy swap) with different plugs for electronics (ecu, dist., etc.). But luckily, Honda already came out with a car like that...the S2K

I drive a R in the summer & my WRX year round. I've made some basic mods to the R & similar mods to the WRX. When I track the R I can post 1.43's at Mosport. I find the car to be avg in the corners & a dog in sweepers & str8s. The WRX on the other hand leaves the R standing but is not as nimble around the corners. The WRX runs 1.40's at Mosport. Around town the WRX smokes the R as I have to w8 for the VTec to kick in. BTW the WRX mods puts the crank HP over 270!
The WRX is for fat people who need the WRXs AWD and torque to get their fat asses moving.
Type-R, skinny people need only apply.

Iceland is a slightly different situation than in the States. And NOT because people in the States think it has extreme winter weather; the fact is, because Iceland is surrounded by ocean and covered with volcanos, its winter is fairly mild, with average high temperatures in Reykjavik in January (36 degrees F) similar to Cincinnati or St. Louis. No, Iceland is different because there's a much lower risk of theft, and I bet the insurance rates aren't as high, either. So some of the disadvantages of the ITR simply don't apply to Iceland.
While the WRX has advantages over the R - more horsepower, 4WD - it also has disadvantages. It's a LOT heavier, the brakes and suspension are nowhere near as capable as the R, and the reliability sucks. (I have a friend who bought one new as well as an R; he sold the WRX after 900 miles.)
If you like the ITR, just keep it, but get an extra set of steel wheels and put a set of winter tires on it. That's what I do, but the winters here in Chicago are a lot worse than in Iceland.

The WRX is a fad. The market for them is nitch, and they are mass producing the **** out of em. As soon as all the ricers get one, resale is going to plumit. The new ones will be cheaper, and the used ones will be selling for 50-60% less then what you paid for it 2 years earlier.
WRX is crap.

Niche market? That's why the WRX STi and the Mitsubishi EVO VIII are coming, right?
The ITR is more of a niche car than the WRX. Only track fiends and street-racing **** (and the occasional girl) buy it.
Speaking as some one who has owned a very higlhy modded R and now a WRX, I would have to say this decision really boils down to what type of driving you do most of, or which type is more important to you.
For street driving, the WRX absolutely stomps on the R. The power band is broader, the traction is better, and the suspension has much less bump steer. On a road course, the story changes. The R will still be down on power, but you can keep it in the sweet spot fairly easily, and the steering and suspension will give better feedback, making it easier to drive fast, even though ultimate grip will probably still got to the WRX. The drag strip, also belongs to the 'Rex for both traction and power.
Fit and finish are about the same, so are amenities. The WRX will be quieter overall, and more forgiving on the body over long distances.

Could not have said it better myself (and I HAVE tried)!
If I wanted a good car for the street, i can think of a lot of other cars i would get before a WRX.
To date I have been completely un-impressed with any WRX I have seen. I have driven one on the street, seen them at AutoX, seen them at road course events and everytime I was disappointed.
I agree it is a fad.
Hell, wait till the EVO goes U.S. production, people will laugh at the WRX. My point being that comparing the WRX to current and future AWD offerings it doesn't stack up.
And in my experience WRX owners tend to somewhat on the cocky/rude side, especially when they see you drive an ITR. Not our fault they have a bad car.

1 thing,the WRX doesn't compare in styling IMO,and another thing is although it has a turbo what could be more fun than tackin out an R to 8400 rpms with the motor screaming like your in an Indy car?R's and even GSR's have always givin the driver satisfaction due to the high reving 4 banger.
I don't really know. If I had a choice of owning either a rex or an R, I'd most likely pick the R. The only reason I can justify abandoning the Honda/Acura lineup would be due to car theft.

I've noticed the Subaru crowd is a very upstanding crowd. A very nice change of pace from the "AZN THUG LYFE" BS that fills the Honda crowd.
This may seem obvious, but which car do you like better? I certainly wouldn't let the jokers around here decide which cars I like. I wouldn't get rid of the R unless I really knew I liked something better. Don't buy just because a good deal has come along. Buy because you honestly want something else more. Think about it
