Default shaving engine bay? (searched)

ok im just wandering if it would be at all possible to shave an engine bay by fiberglassing it rather that welding. i have sum experience with fiber glass, but none welding, also you could more easily mold things in the bay using fiberglass i would think. i searched and didn't find much on using fiberglass on the bay. most people weld the seams and holes while others use bondo (which from my reading, isn't recommended) thanx for any imput.

That should be a clue, really. If it's not common practice, then there's probably a reason for it.

just because most do something one way doesn't mean that there are not other methods that may work. have you experienced using fiberglass in the manner im asking about or know of anyone that has? if so i would appreciate your input but if not the i would appreciate it if you'd not comment.

You might get more responses by posting this question in that thread . . . since it's for pics, theories and discussion.

i wouldn't try to only use bondo, but using alittle as a filler for seams and holes and the laying up multiple plies and feathering them out might work. idk. i think when i get to shaving the bay im gonna try fiberglassing it rather than welding it.

Considering my friend used fiberglass to sort of "remedy" his engine bay, I guess I do have some experience. It won't look terrible, but it will be noticeably different than if you were to use a welder and do it the proper way.
