Default cannot find timing marks

ok so i've never set my timing before, so i finally bought a timing light and researched how to do it. so i go out to my car this morning hook up the timing light and connect the two wires in the passenger foot well (90 crx si with dohc zc btw). start the car up let it warm up till the fan comes on and then point the light at the marks on the timing belt cover and look for the points on the crank pully but i dont see any. i turn the car off and carefully look at the pully but cant see any. wtf am i doing wrong? it should be on the closest part of the pully to the engine rite? anyone help a timing noob out?
