Default how does swapping engine works

wassup people.i'm new here on h-t and new to cars. i have a stock 1999 ls integra.no work done to it at all.my goal is to make more hp and torque and its going to be a DD and going to build it piece by piece.i want it all motor. i want to try to shoot 220 hp.

anyways i'm thinking of swapping an engine to a b18c series. is it better to get a gsr engine instead of a type r because i heard that its harder to build a type r because of its high compression?

and to my real question, is it legal to swap a engine that's not meant for my car? like a ls to a gsr engine. do i need to go to the dmv and tell them that i changed my engine?(sorry for the stupid ?'s). and how will it pass smog? and also can i put like a engine thats 1996 to a 1999 or it has to be 1999 and above.

thanks

You can build a type R or a GSR to 220HP. If you are talking flywheel HP go with the type R. If you are talking WHP go with the GSR cause you will have to change everything anyways to achieve that goal.

yeah...that didn't make sense at all

do some more research man. loo around at some build threads and just see whats up. hell you could probably even google LS to type-r swap and get some good results. or google LSVTEC or type r, or b18 engine build, and see what all of those bring up. read all of those links. join an integra forum and read all of the stickies and do some searching. you'll have to do some work internally to both engines to get over 200 to the wheels, whether you can do it with just cams boltons and a tune or you have to go into the rotating assembly i don't know, i don't dick around with those engines.

and as for legality, it all depends on where you live. but i think a b18 to another b18 should be legal, hell you could even do some work to the bloc you have in your car and throw another head on it i imagine. then theres no issues at all
