Hid help
so i bought an HID kit and got one side hooked up. went to turn on lights to see if it worked and it came on for about 2-3seconds kinda flickering then went out. tried same light on other side did the same thing. i put my regular bulbs back in but now my low beams dont work at all. high beams work but not low. checked my fuses they were fine. so what should i check next???
the hid kit is garbage,
just checking but you know that the is 5 fuses for the head lights right?
4 in car 1 under hood,,, check them all with a multimeter or just replace them.
what year is the car??
my 98 did the same thing when my head light harness hit the pulley and melted but it blew my low beam fuse.

Probably blowing a fuse.
What HID kit did you get? Hopefully not a crappy $40 ebay kit. DDM Tuning sells amazing kits for $70 w/ lifetime warranty's.
Also, the startup voltage and amperage for HID's is more than your OEM wiring/headlight switch is made for. You need a relay harness to divert the heavy startup.

i bought a kit from a friend who gets them from xtremehids.com. i found out my prob. i had hit the high beam switch and it blew the high beam fuse. culd i put a 40a fuse in the high beam spot and low beam spot and not have to get the relay harness? its a 35w kit i believe. and sorry for stupid questions im tryin to come up with other solutions as well
ONLY replace fuses with the same rating in Amps.
You can run a 35 watt kit plug and play, but that extra load will eventually take a toll on your wiring and headlight switch. The relay harness' are $25 + shipping from ddmtuning or you could make your own. What the relay harness does is when you turn on your HIDs, the startup power comes DIRECTLY from the battery and bypasses the headlight switch and OEM wiring. Startups for HID's are tough on oem electronics.

gotcha. what all would i need to make my own harness? how fast would that cause my battery to go dead? and would making my own harness be cheaper than buying one from them or somewhere else? thanks for ya help

Sorry for the late response, I am usually on other forums and dont stay on here to much.
Yes, you can make your own relay, but you can buy one for $25 from DDMTuning.com. That is the relay I have and it works wonderfully, just make sure all the + and - match up.
It is a very good quality relay.
I dont have a diagram to make one, sry. It also helps to put the car you own in your signature. The guy above said your car? has 5 fuses, whereas mine has one fuse for each side.

I find it humorous that anybody would actually think a $70 HID kit would be any better quality than a $40. Kit's are garbage, period.
For my retrofit, I made my own harnesses with Bosch 30A relays on each side of the car, and a 20A fuse for each headlight/relay. Much cheaper than buying harnesses I think.

Have you ever personally used the DDM Tuning HID kit? I would say no. So really, your opinion has no meaning whatsoever. $70 kit, well, when we bought them, the kit was over $150. I, like more than 15 other people on HondaAccordForum.com have used their kit for years without ANY problems. Not to mention, both the ballast and bulb have a lifetime warranty, which none of us have ever needed to use. The customer help is top notch as well. The kits are slim, completely sealed, and painted. I actually for the past year have just let the ballast sit on the inner lower wheel well where water can sit for sometimes without a problem, but now both are mounted. In all, the kit I have, will last just as long as your hid's. And if it ever were to fail, I get free replacements for life. Seems economical to me.
So for a product that we have used for years that has not failed or had any problems to be considered "garbage" is completely moronic in every way possible. Yes, you have a retro, thats great. I have my HID's in TYC projector headlights and they are aimed properly so I have never gotten flashed nor does it produce glare. Yes, Halogen and HID lighting have different wavelengths, but a halogen projector can manage HID's if aimed properly.
I personally have seen eBay $40 kits corrode and start electrical fires. Hence why I stay away from those heart stoppers.
its not a fuse, like he said, its a garbage kit. i bought some bixenon hids and they did the same thing... bad kit. Check your grounds really well too. or just put your factory bulbs back in, its a lot cheaper and theres no headache of made in taiwan quality.
most pnp kits dont blow a few seconds after start up, but check the fuse anyways
because hids take alot more power at start up the stockers and that could blow a fuse very easily.
WELL i did blow fuses for my high beams. BUT put new ones in and got kit hooked back up. only problem now is that wen i turn my lights on, i have to have the high beams on for the kit to work. is this my bulb type? the state i live in i have to have both HIGH and LOW beams to pass inspection. I drive a 95 civic dx sedan btw, and im using oem housing with retrofits.
Does anybody have a solution of why my kit only works when my high beams are on and how to fix it? if its the bulbs can someone give me a link to some cheap but good bulbs that have the high and low beam setting.
and im not tryin to start an argument but i honestly think that HID kits arent as bad as pple think. i ran 3 days without my kit retrofitted and didnt get flashed by other drivers. and the visability was good as well.

wait now im confused...
you have retro fitted lights? or pnp kit??
if you have pnp they should be H4, abd you have to get the bi-xenon kit for hi/low.
and if you retrofited you should d2s or d2r, and you would have to have a bi xenon projector.

ok im using an hid kit with the ballest, and bulbs with oem housings that are retrofitted.
"and if you retrofited you should d2s or d2r" what did ya mean by this?
do i need the bi-xenon bulbs to have high and low beams?

retrofited means your using OEM HID projectors that have modified to fit your oem halogen hosing.
d2s and d2r are bulb types that come with oem hid cars like tsx,tl,bmw etc.
yes you HAVE you bi/xenon for high /low beam.

3 years for a few other members. Lifetime warranty. If it ever burns out, it is replaced for free, so really my kit will last longer and be cheaper than yours. My DDMTuning HID kit in my TYC projectors are just fine. Not perfect but better than OEM. Retro's aren't the best thing in the world.
ok so can somebody find me some cheap bulbs that have high and low beams please? id appreciate it much. i would do it but idk wat to look up tbh and i work two jobs so dont really have much time.
The problem likely isn't with your bulbs, it's with the wiring. When you installed the kit, was there a plug with two prongs that you plugged in to the stock headlight harness with a three prong connection?
Go get an inspection and let me know what happens. Your DOT approval on the OEM housings were not tested with the retro, now was it?
Retros are NOT DOT approved, therefore ILLEGAL.
