i need help pleasssseeeee
Ok here is the story so sit back and enjoy
i just bought a black honda s2000, it seemed perfect when i got it, but i now have it a week and im having a problem! Basically i can start my car and drive, i can drive all day and this probe wont happen but the very odd time when driving it will 'buck' almost like i cant drive! it happens 2-3rd gear 3000 rpm when acclerating! what i normally do when it begins 'bucking' is clutch it to calm it down, and release and proceed on! now i tried not clutching it and putting the foot down and what happened was severe loss of power! imagine being in 6th gear at 20 mph and trying to acclerate? it felt like that in 2nd gear! i thought maybe it need some maintance so i bought some brand new plugs pfr7g11s, put some fuel cleaner in and done what i was told from a friend to tap the map sensor! i had done the previous first and then drove it and then a couple days later done the map tap!
After the map tap it seemed a little better! so i decided to take it off! the seal seemed worn so i replaced it blowed into it to try and clean it re-fitted it and plugged it back in! and was also told to zip tie, so i did! few cable ties!
Now i have a new problem, it seems a bit slower 2-4000 rpm then when it hits 4000 rpm its perfect! i thought it was my imaginagtion at first but its definitly slower and kind of feels too sensitive! like i could bring on the 'buck' all too easily if that makes sense? my obvious guess seems replace the map sensor but i thought before i do that a few people on here could help me out and maybe know or are aware of this type of problem
Thanks in advance guys

Alright man its a coil on plug car no dizzy or wires. Also I know this seems a off the wall but check your alternator. If it is worn or bad it can cause a bucking problem. The alternator cant give the ignition system enough voltage to keep up with the increase in RPM if it is worn. If its not the case I would replace the map. Honda MAPs do not have a great shelf life lol.

I had similar issues. It turns out one of my coilpacks was bad. I had the coilpack and spark plugs replaced, and had a valve adjustment done to it as well. I do not know which service cured the problem but you might want to inspect your coilpacks.
sorry, didnt know they didnt have that stuff... never really dealt with s2k's so dont know much about em. just throwing out ideas... thanks for the heads up thou, i guess you learn something new evry day...
dam you ask for help and they just blast you about it!!!!!!!! any bad coil pack would be a simple misfire and your car would run like crap at all rpms and a bad clutch your car would just slit you know high reving but not realy going anywhere and since you got a map sensor not a maf sensor that dosnt seem like the problem all thou you cant discard that idea what year and how many miles on your s2k have? also check fuel filter and make sure you have no vacume leaks!
Check the plug wires. Look at them in the dark (at night, in a dark garage). Look for any indication that the ignition is jumping out of the wires. You get some weird problem from plug wires.
To be honest, I'd bet it's the coils. Had a car fail like that (not an S2k thoug).
Have you tried the fuel filter?

OP: Try replacing the MAP with a known good one. Find a friend with a S2000. offer to wash their car and switch MAPs without them knowing. It'll be their problem then. That's how I roll. I don't have a lot of friends anymore....
Or get out a volt meter and test your MAP/TPS.
A quiz to all the guys saying "not enough fuel": the car is bogging at UNDER 4K RPM. Does the car require more fuel or less fuel at higher RPMs?

On another note, why does help in this forum have to be hidden under tons sarcasm or just unnecessary statements. No offense to those that are helping, but it seems a bit annoying and probably in some cases frustrating when you're trying to resolve a problem.
I'm in this thread because this model car is still "new" to me.
Check the plug wires. I had a loose one on my old K20 and it jump around at low rpm and bog down. I'd let off and then get back on the throttle again and it was fine all the way up to limiter. the coils isnt a bad place to chech either.
Christ Lord! Does nobody know what this V E R Y common problem is?
Ok, listen up, I'm going to tell you how to fix your problem right now.
For starters, you need to know what causes this problem to understand the answer. For whatever reason, Honda didn't get the measurements right on the connector for the map, and due to engine vibration, it will move around causing a faulty connection.
So what do you do?
Get up close and personal with your MAP sensor, and take the harness off of the sensor. Look at the connections to make sure that everything is making a good connection and that there isn't anything wrong with the MAP or the harness that plugs into it. Make sure it's good and clean, and if it's not, clean it. Reconnect the sensor and get yourself a ziptie that is long enough to wrap around the sensor completely. Do just that.
Example

I'm not promising this will fix your problem no matter what, I haven't seen your car. However, with the issues you described to us, this sounds like the problem.
As for the Ziptie, don't hate, it's the same thing they would do at the dealership, as that's the directions that are in the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) from Honda.

mine was doing the same thing.. putting the cams back in time and putting aem ems in the car fixed it... haha
im pretty sure mine was as bad as it was b/c the cam timing was off, tried all the other 'fixes' and nothing helped.
i dont get the map plug issue, its the same fn map sensor and plug they have been using since fn 1900 at honda, makes no damn since to me

ntensehonda made a good point. I would have started here then worked my way to the plugs and coil packs. Have you put gas recently? I usually like to start with the obvious and easy solutions and rule them out before tearing into the motor.
For all the other immature comments lets grow up a little!

make sure you're using premium octran bc my friend and i that drives a white '08 sti trade cars every once inawhile and i think he put regular on my car and it did the same problem you were having until it was time to gas up my car again.
i drove my car for about thirty minutes with the correct fuel and it got it back to normal. i did a complete full oil change just to be safe including tanny, rear diff, and spark plugs.
