1st time getting adjutables.tockico illumina. any tips???
i just got a set of adjustable struts for my ef civic. it is my first time getting a pair. just looking for some advice on adjuting them for street and track use. what are the best #'s, i have a b18 gsr, eibach springs, 15 inch si's. thanks
I don't have any tips on adjusting them, sorry - hopefully others can help - but here's a different tip: Save your purchase receipt! Most aftermarket shocks come with a lifetime warranty.
Yup.
Though, to expand on that a little.
Start off on full soft. Get used to how the car feels.
Turn up the front shocks a little, and go for a drive. Continue turning them up and testing until it feels "rigid", "overly stiff" or such that the car doesn't want to behave quite correctly (over damped), then back off one setting.
Repeat for the rear.
Most cars come from the factory slightly underdamped, and that condition feels best for most people. Its your car, make it feel right for your needs.

i find a speed bump. go over it at a slow speed. adjust upwards until the front end bounces ONCE and thats it. same thing for the rear.
when im at the track, just bump them all up to 5 all around.

heres a tip. return them and buy a better shock. i had them. they work best on full stiff if you have any half decent spring rates.

tokicos are a decent shock. i'd place them between crappy KYB's and "god made" konis.. apparently there are a lot of people out there that think Konis are the only shock you can ever buy.. they are damn nice shocks, especially for stiffer spring rates. but for a mild autox/street setup illuminas are extremely nice. i've owned 2 sets now of illuminas, and 2 sets of konis. the only time i bought konis is when i went to 550lb front and 600lb rear springs on my crx so i bought the revalved ones to handle the rates. i also bought a pair of konis for my 86 crx because i needed them shortened. (anyone that has a torsien bar civic would understand)
i have illuminas on my track Miata and i'm not going to dump them for konis any time soon. they've been reliable for about 8 track weekends so far, a dozen or so autox and about 35k miles.
i had kyb agx's on my crx. they blew out within a month of daily driving on skunk coilover sleeves .. (i know skunk are horrible, but so were the shocks..) my brother blew out a set on ground controls..
anyways, that is my experience.. i usually run 3 front, 5 rear on my hondas with illuminas, and i think i'm running 4 front, and 3 rear on my miata. i may have to bump it up a little, but it seems pretty neutral.
