will a golden eagle h22a1 headgasket work on a h22a4?
will a golden eagle h22a1 headgasket work on a h22a4?
i know normally you want to get the headgasket to match the block and i did this when i got a cometic gasket. Recently that headgasket went so i decided to go with golden eagle because i hear they are a little more reliable.
The issue: It looks like golden eagle only sells a h22a1 headgasket. (i believe this is their site)

I contacted GE yesterday and they said the h22a1 gasket should work, but i didn't feel fully reassured that they were sure. I know when i got my cometic they had different part numbers for the a1 and a4 gasket
Has anyone used a GE h22a1 headgasket on an open deck h22a4?

but it doesn't look like GE makes a h22a4 gasket. Basically trying to see if i can use the h22a1 gasket they have. the tech there said it should work, but i'm looking for more assurance.
here is a pic i made with images edited taken from cometic.com

at least this post can help someone else out in the future.
thanks HT.
p.s. if anyone else can also confirm this feel free to add to this post.

What that user posted is incorrect. The image you posted above is correct. Compare p/n's and even look at that diagrams. Different gaskets for different blocks.

so the image i have above are from the gasket pics on the cometic site.
if i look at the slhondaparts.com site i can see the part numbers are slightly different but if i view the diagrams it looks like the holes are the same and the only difference is the front most part that are divided for one gasket and connected for the other

I have my block and head torn apart with both head gaskets to the side, i can take a look this weekend if there is no definite answer. i know the h22a4 gasket has the coating milled away where the coolant runs around the sleeves, thats the only difference i can remember right now.
I'm almost positive the ge gasket is just a honda oem gasket that they will machine for over-bored apps (it even says it on their description pages). So unless you're over-bored on your a4, just get the stock hg. If you do need machine work, you can probably send them or have them source an a4 gasket to do the work. The part numbers are different for a reason between the a1 and the a4; it's a different block design.

bluedlude if you could take pics that would be greatly appreciated. From my continued research it sounds like this will work. I even spoke with someone who is using an a1 gasket on his a4 so i think things will be fine. but pics will be great to settle this.
GE must source their hg's from somewhere, I'd be really surprised if they couldn't get an a4 gasket and machine it for you.
installed the a1 gasket....had an a4 gasket on the motor when i took it apart so i could compare the two, just like the pics posted above.
all is well.
all is well.
