Default EP3 intake... No one seems to have tried a K&N...

I have searched, and looked in the FAQ's about intakes. I hear that AEM V2 is really good, and that a CAI is the better way to go as far as power. I get a really good price through my work on the K&N CAI for my 2003 EP3. But no one seems to have anything to say about it. Is there something I should know that makes this a non option. And none of the FAQs are about EP3's in regard to intakes (yes I know that we have the same engine, but the ecus are different).
I live in WA so rain is a concern, but a bunch of my friends go quad-ing and have something they call a filter sock, that repels water and keeps them from hydrolocking. Anybody use one of these?

As for that filter sock, it repels splashes of water, which doesnt hurt your car. If your car goes through a puddle and the cold air filter gets submerged, that sock wont protect it from hydrolocking. The thing that will protect your hydrolocking from a CAI is a AEM bypass valve or run a short ram intake

There's a comprehensive write-up on Clubrsx regarding all 17 million different brands of intakes. If you want the most (top-end) power, go with Injen. They all do the same thing. You might make +/- 2whp with a different brand, but who cares. It won't be noticeable.

If you can get a cheap K&N intake I'd just go with that. Don't get a CAI.

I've had a K&N before and I didn't notice any difference except for sound lol. They tend to be a little bit quieter I guess but performance wise I didn't notice anything. I live in WA and I'd just play it safe and go with a SRI.

I don't live in WA but I've been there twice and here is my advice:

Save all your money for a swap or FI.

Honestly, doing the airbox mod would probably do about the same for you as spending money on an intake. Unless you already have it done, spend money on suspension first.

its just an intake... I think we are all thinking a little to hard about it... and its on a stock engine.... go with anything you want. Best performance wise I've read/seen/own is the injen CAI but anything is better than stock

I just installed a K&N SRI on my JRSC-s/stock motor and it sounds good im sure it has a bit more HP but nothing too crazy. The thing i like most over a gutted stock box is that you can actually hear the supercharger.

I am in the middle of doing the Hondata Air Box mod... I prefer keeping the stock look personally! If I had some money to throw around I would probably go with the Comptech Ice Box or the Mugen intake...

k&n only makes a sri.....sri just take the hot air from under the hood and pull it into the motor so there is not much to be gained...try a 3 inch cai is you want much of a gain,

Well, I've done the Hondata box mod with the filter that was in the car when I got it (some cheap fram bullsh!t). And replaced it with a stock Honda Air Filter last night, which by the way are oiled, and immediately noticed an improvement over the old filter.

I didn't realize until this morning that K&N only has a short ram, they call it the typhoon. The guy at work called it a cold air.

I think the general consensus is that intake, unless a possibly dangerous cold air, is only for sexier sound, which I can basically get out of a Hondata box. Am I right?

SRI is basically for sound really... the CAI gives you some power and sound... the Mugen/Comptech ice box gives you a little sound and power... the Hondata mod give you a little power but I don't know about sound...

How does the Hondata mod sound compared to stock?

Ive run complete stock exhaust and intake; Hondata mod, crap filter, and stock exhaust; and hondata box, honda filter, and stock exhaust.

Hondata box, and honda filter has sounded the best so far, still nice and throaty, and a little louder at high rpm than full stock.

Has anyone tried the megan midpipe? with stock muffler?
