What is the easiest way to chase down a short in wiring?

My situation:
I have a 93 Si hatchback with an LS swap. Wiring is all done by me with soldered and taped connections for my alarm install. All electrical seems fine until I punch out my car. As soon as I punch it through first my high beam light in my gauge cluster flickers. Tonight it flickered and stayed on. After some more random races from a roll my interior light fuse popped. That is the second time it popped on me. I put brand new headlights in the car when I built it [less then 1000 miles]. When I turn on my high beams only my left high beam comes on. I checked the fuses for my headlights in my under dash fuse box. They were both fine. I replaced the right side one anyway yet I still have no right high beam.

Where shall I begin to look for this short? Are there any common places I should check?

Look at the wiring by the headlight first.

For example, on my old Civic I changed the bulbs, didn't pay enough attention, and a wire got on the p/s pump pulley and shredded.

Other things could happen. I have also had problems with a completely random short in the wiring right by the passenger headlight.
