Replacing springs and struts, how hard is it?
Like the title says, I'm replacing my shocks and springs with dropzone coilovers and shocks. $300 sounds pretty good for some basic shocks and springs, and it's about all I can afford with college
. I was wondering how hard it is to replace the shocks on my car though. How about on a scale of 1-10.
I also have the haynes manual to help, but does anyone have a good guide they could point me to?

well being that your swapping over your suspension, shocks+springs ... it should be rather easy since you wont have to compress springs ... just rip out the old and throw in the new ... i've done it like four times so it's easy to me now ... but the first time i did it i'd say it was like a 4 ... when it comes on working on cars it's a love/hate thing for me lol ... i'm impatient and i get frustrated easily
if you are going to go with coil over make sure you get a good set and not some cheap one. known a few people that got some cheap ones and the threads wear off from being under load. down the road they just put drop springs anyway

there is usually a special wrench included to adjust height. to start set each one 2 a set height. i say mid way. install than go back. measure distance from ground to fender. from there jack each wheel and raise or lower each corner accordingly. i recommend you measure and mark with a piece of tape an screw till you reach your mark. or use as a reference of how far to wrench from. for best result do it with a full tank of gas and add a hair to drivers front to compensate for driver unless you normally have a passenger too
i had that problem with my skunk2 coilover sleeves ... and one of the aluminum sleeves split in half =/

well those were coilover sleeves ... they weren't full coilovers ... i have tein ss full coilovers now ... so far so good no problems yet but i got them used so unfortunately i have to get them rebuilt soon
it not that they are bad i just personally don't trust them
i agree ... i NEVER had a single problem with my tein springs ... they felt almost stock ... very comfy ride too ... i only switched up because i wanted to go lower ...
Well here's the auction I was looking at on ebay, do you guys think they will be good for a cheaper setup?

They'll give you a ride quality that's worth $300....I think you're better off waiting and putting that 300 towards better stuff. I mean ground control sleeve overs are 300 for the set, save up another like 400-500 and buy a decent shock to go with it.
but why spend 300 for springs or sleeve overs and then 400 for some good shocks ... when you can buy full coilovers for not much more ... if your looking for ride height adjustment only i'd recommend function form type 1 coilovers for like 600 or so ... but if you want ride quality definately stick to springs
I found some KYB GR2s on ebay, I have heard they are pretty good for the money.

But I'm also in need of some springs and I wasn't looking to spend more than $300, so does anyone have an old set of springs laying around? I'd obviously pay shipping + a little cash your way.

Because a GC/Koni Yellow combo is still considered one of the best setups - by both the Slammed people and AutoX?
That's excluding the lifetime warranty on each by the manufacturer for the original purchaser.
