Default Replacing springs and struts, how hard is it?

Like the title says, I'm replacing my shocks and springs with dropzone coilovers and shocks. $300 sounds pretty good for some basic shocks and springs, and it's about all I can afford with college . I was wondering how hard it is to replace the shocks on my car though. How about on a scale of 1-10.

I also have the haynes manual to help, but does anyone have a good guide they could point me to?

well being that your swapping over your suspension, shocks+springs ... it should be rather easy since you wont have to compress springs ... just rip out the old and throw in the new ... i've done it like four times so it's easy to me now ... but the first time i did it i'd say it was like a 4 ... when it comes on working on cars it's a love/hate thing for me lol ... i'm impatient and i get frustrated easily

if you are going to go with coil over make sure you get a good set and not some cheap one. known a few people that got some cheap ones and the threads wear off from being under load. down the road they just put drop springs anyway

I've heard dropzone coilovers are pretty good considering the price. Anyone have a DIY on adjusting coilovers? I'm still not completely sure how they adjust, and I doubt they will come with instructions.

I'm glad it's only a 4, but I have done lots of other things on my car by myself, so I'll figure it out. Worst case, I'll just spend a few bucks and get a shop to do it for me.

i assume you know what they look like. lol

there is usually a special wrench included to adjust height. to start set each one 2 a set height. i say mid way. install than go back. measure distance from ground to fender. from there jack each wheel and raise or lower each corner accordingly. i recommend you measure and mark with a piece of tape an screw till you reach your mark. or use as a reference of how far to wrench from. for best result do it with a full tank of gas and add a hair to drivers front to compensate for driver unless you normally have a passenger too

that's why i have always either gone with springs, wither it be replacements, heating them or just flat out cut them

They'll give you a ride quality that's worth $300....I think you're better off waiting and putting that 300 towards better stuff. I mean ground control sleeve overs are 300 for the set, save up another like 400-500 and buy a decent shock to go with it.

but why spend 300 for springs or sleeve overs and then 400 for some good shocks ... when you can buy full coilovers for not much more ... if your looking for ride height adjustment only i'd recommend function form type 1 coilovers for like 600 or so ... but if you want ride quality definately stick to springs

I found some KYB GR2s on ebay, I have heard they are pretty good for the money.

But I'm also in need of some springs and I wasn't looking to spend more than $300, so does anyone have an old set of springs laying around? I'd obviously pay shipping + a little cash your way.

Because a GC/Koni Yellow combo is still considered one of the best setups - by both the Slammed people and AutoX?

That's excluding the lifetime warranty on each by the manufacturer for the original purchaser.

Those are OEM replacements, you need to read the Suspension thread from the FAQ.....
