would any one know how i would be able to break the nut loose? used impack gun nothing. used breaker bar the pulley spins. and all i wanted to do was tighten the timing belt. please need help asap

 

I used a breaker bar and what not with a buddy holding a BIG flat head between the flywheel teeth. We put duct tape around the end to not scratch anything up. Took a few pushes with a leg (we were doing this on the ground) and it came loose. You could heat the bolt up but I'd be weary about doing this, could cause problems. Bump

 

I'd just use breaker bar for that and it works...

 

you think it would be safe to torch the nut

 

get a chain strap and hook it up that works pretty darn good ... hook it on the A/C belt side

 

on my s2000 I had to torch it after 2 hours of trying everything....on the civic it came off with my impact gun....

 

get a bigger impact gun. Also tap the trigger dont just hold it

 

Get the crank pulley tool. They're like $30 and extremely valuable.

 

wd-40, breaker bar with extension, strap/chain wrech holding the pulley, and a large flathead in the flywheel all at the same time. If that doesn't work sell the car it's haunted.

 

I used the $30 crank pulley tool on eBay, a breaker bar, a pipe for the breaker bar, an extension, a 17mm impact socket, a jackstand, and some small sheets of plywood.

What you do is put the crank pulley tool in, and have its arm resting against the control arm or whatever, you'll figure that out.

Then take your 17mm impact socket (hopefully a standard 17mm socket will work though) and put it on the bolt.
Use your extension(s) to bring the breaker bar out of the wheelwell.
Put the breaker bar on, and support the extension with a jackstand. You might need pieces of plywood to bring the jackstand high enough to support the extension.
Now take a pipe and slip it over the breaker bar.

With the breaker bar at a ~60º angle from the ground, pointing more towards the front side of the car (but obviously pointing in the air since it's at 60º), take a deep breath and heave down on that breaker bar with all of your weight in one mighty blow. It should break loose 1st or 2nd try.

 

Did you get the one with two 50mm nuts welded together with two bars welded to the nut? That one worked for me. Motor was out of the car, so I sat on the motor while a 200 pound man jumped on the end of a GM Goodwrench (O'Reilly) breaker bar. Broke a 1/2 to 3/8 downstepper in process, got the bigger 1/2 drive 17 and it eventually came free. It moved a little, we thought it slipped was all since it was still ridiculously tense.

I re-tightened it with an electric impact, I really just don't think it's going anywhere with less than 160 ft/lb torque on the bolt.

 

Yep, that's exactly the one I used. And to put it back on I did the same thing, except it was an air impact.

 

i beat on mine for half a day with a powerful impact (450ft) till it came off...

Breaker bar is doing nothing for me. What's this about heating it up?

 

Crank pulley tool, well worth the $30.

Impact gun is less likely to break/strip stuff the a breaker bar.

 

heat it up...splash some water on it and blast it off with a gun

 

Does the bolt loosen up right away?

Or is it hard to get out most of the way?

I think I had it out half a turn, then my socket took a **** and cracked in half. Debating on whether to buy an impact gun socket or just another regular one
