Anybody use aftermarket axles?
I rallycross an eg civic with an lsvtec and lsd, my buddy also races his ek civic with an lsvtec and lsd. Yesterday we had a race and coming threw a hairpin (in grassy dirt stuff) in 1st gear with the wheels at/or close to full lock to the left, my outer passenger side cv blew.
So I get towed in and my friend with the EK lets me finish up my morning runs in his car. 2 runs later, same turn, same conditions, I pop his same CV joint. Anyway a lunchtime run to autozone yields two new lifetime axles and we are able to finish the day with no more busted axles.
Now I am contemplating getting some beefy DSS axles or something that will handle the abuse. I know remans are/can be shitty, but with a lifetime warranty, keeping a spare on hand and 20 minutes on the ground swapping an axle may be cheaper than a $300 set of axles without a warranty.
I know 1st gear, full lock is about the most amount of stress you can put on an axle and for the 2nd half I did my best to lug through in 2nd. I just wonder if any of you guys have done similar things and went to stronger axle and not had any problems.
Thanks a lot

i dont know how much more strength your going to see using them at full lock... thats obviously the most stress you can put on it.
i'd keep a set of spare axles with you and take your chances . the heavy duty axles are a bit better , but a HOLY CRAPLOAD more expensive.

On the axles you broke... take apart the inner joint and clean the housing out. Check for marks on the housing to see if the tripod bearings bottomed out inside the housing. If so, that tells you what caused the outer joint to fail... Unless you have shorter axles, any axle will break the outer joint when it bottoms. Shorten the axle or increase the ride height.
