nasty fluctuating idle
i did a swap into my 96 accord with and h22a1 and i am having fluctuating idle problems. i check all my vacuums and gaskets and everything is good. i bought a new iacv and that seems to have not done anything... anyone have any ideas that may be of any help??
thanks
thanks
It's probably your FITV (fast idle thermo valve) It's located under your TB, that thing sucks, I don't even know why they put them or our cars, but there's a way to clean it

The way I do it, or the way I was taught, with your engine cold, open the bleeder bolt, which is located by the thermostat area, it's a 12mm bolt I think, then open your radiator cap and start filling up until the colant starts coming out of the bleeder bolt, then close the bleeder bolt and then the radiator. That's how I was taught to do it.
^ do this, but leave your rad cap off, start the car and let it get to full operating temp, then put the radiator cap on. this is what it says in the helm's anyway; makes sure all the last little bubbles are out as the fluid expands as it warms up i suppose.
i did that and water was shooting everywhere and the idle stayed... i think it might be the FITV. is the fitv suppose of be loose on the inside where the two metal nipples clink against each other
?? there should be a big white plastic plunger on the inside; it should be secure. if it's loose, you can screw it down with a flathead screwdriver iirc.
sorry i opened it again and i saw those notches... i tightened it and then i noticed when i started the car it had a nice consistant idle for five seconds unlike before where the idle just started when the car ignited. i think that my FITV is bad completely...
i have an aftermarket tb and am going to put that on to see if the idle goes away and if it does i will get another fitv if it doesnt then its off to bleeding the coolant again and searching for vacuum leaks.... i know its not vacuum leaks cause i rebuilt the entire motor with new gaskets everywhere so might be those stupid hoses connected wrong... let you guys know
I am having the same problem with my h22 swap. i tried the fitv but it did the same thing yours did, idled constant and then went back to spiking. Let me know if the aftermarket TB works for you.
good news everyone that aftermarket TB WORKED!!!! so that tells me that my FITV was bad... thanks everyone for the great help you all did....h22 EGHATCH your FITV might be bad but try cleaning the IACV first if that doesnt help then get another TB
