Default Has anyone ever tried putting 98+ headlight lenses on 94 headlight backs?

My roommate is doing a 98+ conversion. All he needs are headlights. We have a set but the gray backing part of the headlight is broken. So I was wondering if I could put the 98+ lenses on the 94 backs. They look the same but I didn't know if they were different inside. Thanks in advance.

The insides are the same. Where the lens mates to the housing is the difference. 94 headlights had maybe 4 plastic clips (piece on the housing clips around a nub on the edge of the lens), and then 4 metal retaining clips. The 98+ headlights had like 8 plastic clips only, and no metal retaining clips. So I don't know if the metal clips would work on the 98 lenses. If not, you'd only have maybe 4 plastic clips holding the lens on.
