Default Problems with Crankshaft Pulley Fitment

Hey guys,

At work were working on a 1989 Honda Civic. The customer blew a headgasket and wanted to get his engine replaced. Were just doing the labor only, customer brought in their own engine. Engine in the car was a D15B while the one they brought in to replace with is a D15b2.

We installed the new engine already and everything is pretty much done except that the crankshaft pulley off the old engine doesn't fit. The diameter of the crankshaft on the new engine is .850 inches while the old engine is .900 inches. I check with the dealership and they told me that there was only 2 crankshaft pulleys made for that year which was one with powersteering and one without powersteering.

I talked to one of my Japanese engine supplier and they told me they ran into that problem once and that we were better off dropping in a different motor.

I was just wondering if anyone had run into this problem and came up with a solution with this? If so give me your input thanks.

I had a thread on this a couple of months ago. You'll have to get a pulley off a civic of those years that have a d15b2( civic have pw steering). The d15b2 that the customer brought in was off a Dx or STD crx (crx doesnt have power steering).
