So i got an 88 dx hb for a daily and its got some issues... it will almost always start on the first try so no issue there, however it sometimes has a very erratic idle, losing power, popping and once in a while it completely stall. A couple of days ago it was losing power.. poping and then a very loud pop and sparks flew out the back of the car... any ideas?

it has a new cap and rotor for the dizzy, new gasket for the dpfi throttle body and i replaced most of the vaccum lines... thanks all for what help you can offer

 

is the cat clogged?

 

Thats the first thing i thought however these symptoms come and go sometimes it will run perfect... of course ill have to either drive 80 miles to get my jacks and stands to get under it.(which i wouldnt want to do for obvious reasons) or go buy a new set... thanks for the idea...any other thoughts...anyone?

 

did you check the plugs

 

plugs are "clean" ... actualy thats the first thing i checked... timing is ok but the cover is ****ed so im pretty sure its not 100 percent...

sounds like your running to lean, and your cat IS getting clogged up. my moms minivan is having the same problem, it turns on quick but when driving it starts bogging out backfiring and the fumes coming from the exhaust is really really hot. is it throwing any codes?

 

thats what gets me... no cel... it works cause it lights when the car turns on but other than that no
