On my gsr with unidentified catback. Anyone ever have this problem? It sounds like muffler is vibrating. Friend said he had the same problem, and he said it might be casing on catalytic converter. What did you do to fix yours? Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

 

sounds like a heat shield to me.

 

^^+1 with the head shield......check your gaskets, if it has been leaking for a bit it would also make that rattling sh8t.

 

Definitely heat shield. Often the spot welds rust out and it just starts rattling against itself. Get under the car and give it a few whacks to see if it rattles. If that's what it is, just cut it off! When I had an EM2, my Cat heat shield did that and it took me forever to find it...such a nuisance!

 

what if mine only rattles from ONLY 2600-3200. DC HEADER on a b18b1

 

i had the same problem and i removed ALL the heat shields but the sound was still there and i was like WTF so i looked again and the sound was comming from the resonator, it sounded like there was a bolt rattling around

 

have a buddy look under the car to see if its coming from the heat shield on the cat. if so put two hose clamps around it. should fix the problem ive done it many times

 

Mine has been doing this for the past week. im pretty sure its heat shiel;d its getting ripped off when i get time.

 

Two things. either the heat shield or the inner tubing of the B pipe. Mines had that same rattle and it drove me nuttz. Mines was the inner tubing of the B pipe which had rotted. Only way to fix it is to remove the B pipe and put a some spot welds between the inner and outer pipes to keep it from rattling. Or get another stock header or aftermarket header.

see i know mine's the heat shield cuz after i get sick and tired of hearing it and i get so angry ill go find a huge speed bump and drive over it cuz im droped it will scrape the shield and stop for a couple months =X

 

Heat shield, I just had to take mine off last week because it was rattling...

 

Well, it wasn't the heat shield on the cat. I put two hose clamps on it, still rattled. Removed the head shield on the cat, still rattled. After checking it out, vibration is heard throughout the b pipe. I'll try replacing exhaust manifold with aftermarket header, lets hope that works. Thanks for the help, and I'll let you all know what happens.

 

I had the same exact problem when i first bought my 95 gsr. I went to dive out on the street and around 2000-3500 rattled like a some bitch. The first thing i did was removed the heatshild covering the uppermost Header The 4-2 section before the downpipe. I went to drive it and now it rattled from 2500-3000 so i got under the car and it was the shild above the exhaust not even connected to any pipe, so i removed it and its as quite as a train.
