I am replacing my alternator on my 99 gsr because the pulley had come off. I put it on the lift after work today and took off the wires and unbolted it. To me it seems that it will be necessary to partially or completely move the driver side axle. I would like to avoid this if possible. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

 

No dude you shouldn't have to take of the axel. You might have to move some of the brackets around it mounted in the engine bay to pull it off.

 

i got it replaced fairly easy by removing the stabilizer bar. Just had to get a long exstension and swivel to get the passenger side bolts.

 

is there a difference between obd1 or obd2 alternators? is there a difference between automatic and manual? just wondering.

 

obd1 and obd2 have different plugs, so an obd1 alternator will not work on an obd2 car and vice versa.
