Someone please help me, i have an 99 hatchback. its an cx. i looked everywhere and i cant fine out how much horse power it have. i would like to know how much hp it is with vtec, and with out. thank you

Give the guy a break guys, sounds like he's new to the scene and is looking to do some sort of motor swap so he's looking at the hp specs.

To OP, where in Seattle are you from.

 

All '96-'00 USDM Civic hatchbacks came with the same D16Y7,1.6L SOHC non-VTEC engine. None of them came with VTEC.

As the link to my thread states, the D16Y7 engine puts out 106 hp @ 6200 rpm and 103 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm.

The only '96-'00 USDM Civics with VTEC were the ones with stock fully painted trim and stock moonroofs: the EX coupe and sedan and the Si coupe (and the GX sedan, which they have no moonroof, but they're very uncommon).

I would really suggest the ones joking around in here should cut it out. Everyone starts somewhere and giving the OP BS information isn't helping at all.

Also, telling someone to search and then not answering their question is against the forum rules.

It takes about 10 minutes to look up VTEC on google and find Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control, and read what it does. If you're CLUELESS about engines it'll take about an hour or two to read all about how they work on HowStuffWorks to get the gist of VTEC.

You'd think someone with even the mildest interest in any of this would at LEAST look this up beforehand. Too many people ask too many questions without ANY research beforehand, oh well. As someone mentioned previously and as was linked, all hatches came with a D16y7 engine without VTEC that did 106hp @ 6200rpm and 103lb/ft of torque at 4600rpm.

The OP did not ask what VTEC is, they simply asked how much HP thier car has. So, your reply was pretty useless (not trying to be an ***, but it is true.) All your links (except the first one,) are all about how VTEC works, not how much HP his D16Y7 makes. The only thing helpful you posted was already covered by NOFX.

Also, yes people can go to Google and whatnot to search, but essentially is that not what the guy did? He came here instead of a search engine to find an answer, which in my opinion is the best way to search for honda-related info. So, in a way, they did search, they just made a good choice to make this place thier first pit-stop.

Just incase you missed it, underneath the Honda-Tech logo, it does say HONDA AND ACURA TECHNICAL RESOURCE...

 

I realize this, but he asked how much HP it made with/out VTEC. If he understood how VTEC works, he would not have made himself seem silly with that question. There's just a lot of people who have no clue how VTEC works and what it does, and that's why Honda owners as a whole get generalized as ignoramuses who think VTEC is some holy HP-making mechanism, yielding illustrations such as these:







Regardless I was trying to show the OP some material on what VTEC is and how it works, so he doesn't make the same mistake again, hence making us all look bad. And I mean just overall, it's good to know.

Anyhow, I might have come across rather aggressively and apologize, fact of the matter is he got the information he needed and I understand asking questions, I myself ask quite a few - especially when the search function sucks and sometimes Google doesn't yield anything.

 

I think all this confusion started because the OP didn't state his questions correctly. I think when he says "with/without vtec" he's referring to the different motor specs.

If not then he's got a lot to learn.

And to Vic, I think you're right when saying that there's a lot of people who are ignorant about VTEC. But patronizing them will just make the problem worse, why not just point them to the right direction or answer their questions so they can learn. Just my .02 cents.
