how to tell if its a b16 tranny
ok well i drove over 2 hours up to Newport VT to a place called custom rides. idk if anyone has herd of this place but he does a lot of motor swaps and well pretty much what ever you want on a honda. the guy seems like a good guy but i worry a lot about things like this. well i called all over and no one would sell just the cable b16 tranny. they all wanted to sell the motor with tranny and one place said that they would sell me the tranny but they wanted $1200 none lsd wtf. so my friend knew this guy jeff the owner of custom rides and he had one that he said that he would sell me for $500. so we drove up there and i bought that and some rota circuit 10's. he seems really cool and he knows his ****. but i know people that have bought trannys off other people n they wernt the right ones. im not saying that he ripped me off or anything like that but i just worry. i know its not lsd but im not sure if its a usdm ls/gs tranny cuz i have read that some of the usdm trannys are ys1's. the tranny in my car says s1 and the one i bought off the guy says ys1. is there some other way to tell so if it is or isn't a b16 tranny i don't want to wast my time and put the same tranny in. i have a ls/v with gsr head in it now and i had a crx with a b16 n itr cams and it had the b16 cable tranny and i loved how short the gears were so if this is the right tranny it should liven it up even more. so if someone knows how to tell then let me know...thanks
the hydro ITR trannies are being blown out for $1300 new in the box on ebay right now. how many the guy has is hard to say but with the prices you're quoting i'd be half tempted to do a hydro conversion. s4c is the b16 transmission, the b16b has the same numbers with R4 LSD printed on the case. however, that also is a hydro unit.
the only other way i know is to open it up and start counting teeth, but you really need to know what your looking for. my tranny is a b16 with ls final drive and lsd, its an s80
well like i said i already bought it and i payed $500. ya i have searched on here and haven't found a strait answer yet. i tried searching the serial number on here and on yahoo and google. i also have a bunch of honda books but they all say that there is a ys1 that is a b16 cable tranny but for the 90-93 integra gs/ls trannys is says s1/ys1 so im not sure. the one thats in my car now is stock and it says s1. i hope i can figure this out. thanks

My Gsr is S80, it says it right on the tranny, it is stamped in during manufacturing. Just look at the front of the gearbox. integras have equal length half shafts, I assume CTR's and si's do as well.
get the serial # and go to your local honda/acura dealer and they can look it up for u.if it is unidentified, chances are u have a jdm trans.better than guessing or askin ur ricer friends!
well its supposeply a jdm b16 tranny so i doubt that a honda garage will be able to tell me what it is since they didn't have them in America and i was saying that is a ys1 that's what the vin stars with. and i know its not a lsd my last cable b16 tranny wasn't either but the gears were short as hell they way i like them i don't care about top end i like taring out of the hole and i could do about 125+ at 8000rpms with my last cable b16 tranny that's fast enough for around here. there's got to be a way to tell. i guess ill just have to put it in but id hate to swap it for nothing. the guy i bought it off said that it is a b16 tranny and he said that if i have any problems with it to bring it back but like i said i just worry about things like this. well if anyone knows a web site that i can check the whole vin # then that would be cool thanks
well i blew my tranny last night so im putting that tranny in i hope its a b16 tranny. another thing that's worrying me is what clutch to use cuz my car is a 90 and i know 90-91 integra trannys have different splines then the 92-93 trannys. i read somewhere last night that the ys1 trannys take the 92-93+ clutch disk so i guess im gonna go buy a stock replacement clutch 2day and if it slides on the pilot shaft then ill use it and if it doesn't then ill return it. well ill let you guys know latter 2night how it works out n what tranny it ends up being
There are 3 versions of the ys1 tranny..
1. 92-93 usdm LS
2. 92-93 usdm GSR 1.7
3. 92-93 jdm B16
The only real way to check which one it is besides installing it is to take the case off and count teeth on the gears. There are topics you can search for that discuss calculating gear ratios by counting teeth. But, since you said you blew your other tranny you might as well put it in and hope for the best.
If your pressure plate is in good shape you can re-use it, the only difference is the disk.

well i put the tranny in. i had to get a new clutch too cuz of the splines but my freind had a act pressure plate,6 puck clutch n flywheel for $200 so that was the good part of the night. it took longer then i expected cuz the guy that had it before me changed the clutch and somehow rounded over the bitch pin that holds the shift linkage on so it took forever to pound that out. anyway after that it went in quick. but he did rip me off its a LS tranny. i had such a bad feeling about it. it just sucks cuz he seemed like a good guy but guess not. he did tell me that if i had any problems to come back up and he will help me but idk what to do now cuz its in my car. damb it i really want a b16 tranny
Sorry man that sucks, I sold my good condition LS cable tranny for $200. Since it's a business you bought it from, I would tell the piece of **** that he needs to get you a good b16 tranny and swap it out or you will take legal action. Businesses are having a hard enough time these days without having to worry about getting sued. It sucks and it's gonna be a pain in the ***, but people that do this stuff know that a lot of people they screw are just gonna let it go.
Do you have a receipt saying that you bought a b16 tranny? Do you have witnesses?

i don't have a receipt but my best friend is the one who knows him and introduced me to him and he went with me to buy it. it sucks cuz he seems like a good guy. ive always been one to give people the benefit of the doubt but lately that's got me nowhere. i guess you cant trust anyone these days. id like to think that since he has so much **** up there that maybe he somehow grabbed the wrong one on accident but idk. he did tell me that if i had any problems with it then just stop by n he will help me out the best he can but the problem is its over 2 hours away. im gonna talk to him and see what he says. im gonna try to get him to find the right one n see if we can swap it out up there but idk if he will go for that. i have no problem swapping it again cuz i can do it in a few hours but its the thought of it that sux since i just had it out. well ill keep you guys updated
I hear you about giving people the benefit of the doubt, I'm the same way, but yeah I've been bitten in the *** for it. Hopefully it was an honest mistake and he'll make things right. GL.
