vtec wiring
i swapped a b16a2 from an em1 into an ej8, im using the p2t ecu with the wiring harness off the b16. the car i swapped it into didnt have vtec, and i was wondering if i had to phisically wire up for vtec. ive seen threads on here with the exact pinouts on the ecu, but i couldnt find any. could someone plz post up the link. thnx
yes you have to physically wire the vtec IF your engine harness came from a non vtec motor.. meaning using a separate wire line and wiring that directly to the ecu.. if its a jdm ecu then only the vtec solenoid needs to be wired. If its a usdm ecu then the vtec pressure switch and the vtec solenoid needs to be wired..

if you already have a engine harness that came out of a vtec motor then you dont have to worry about wiring it.. unless you have a jdm engine and running a usdm ecu then the CEL will come on for VTPS or vtec pressure switch because the jdm engines dont use VTPS.. theres also a trick to bypass this method..

you cant tell on yours? any check engine lights? is your speedo working? put it on second gear and hold it until around 5000rpms and see if you hear a difference.

Bingo! thats your problem. Vtec doesnt work if your speedo isnt working. Besides you dont have a VSS thus your speedo isnt working. You need to find a VSS asap and THEN vtec will work I guaranteed it!
To further explain, VTEC won't engage if you are below a certain speed. Since your VSS is missing or whatever, the ECU doesn't know how fast you are going and thus VTEC won't engage.
