Icon6 b16a2 into 96 dx hatch: obd2a-obd2b question

so, as the title states, im going to be preforming my first swap soon on my little hatch. i just have a question about the wiring, i understand that obd2 is undesirable to everyone on here.. but reason being im keeping it obd2 is because i want to get it BAR'd since i live in california, i also know that everyone says b16's suck and without vtec its the same as a d16 blah blah blah.. but back to my situation.. so my car is obd2a of course, and the motor/harness/ecu is obd2b so i have the original uncut si harness, and p2t ecu, and my question was can i just repin the ecu wires so they go where theyre supposed to, or is there more to it than that? ive went over different wiring pinouts and diagrams and i have a helms to refer to, but i wanted to ask because maybe someone has first hand experience with this swap.. maybe after i get it to pass BAR i will convert to obd1 and run a chipped p28 like everyone else, but for now i need to wire it up as if it were an EM1 from my understanding of how the state ref. works.

if anyone has any suggestions, or knows something i dont, please share.. its my first swap, and i would like for it to go as smoothly as possible.. its my first car, and daily so i cant be without it too long.

Thanks,
Steve.

if u got the 99-00 complete engine harness then no need to repin/cut anything...its a straight plugs and play and u dont eve need a jumper harness for the ecu..wire up the motor if its already out of the car, drop it in, hook everything up and plug in the ecu

if u wanna pass Bar u need a cat thats from a 99-00 SI
ALL evap parts hooked up correctly and working properly
ALL readiness monitors set to Ready/Complete

if you're using the obd2b ecu, you may throw a code for the fuel tank pressure sensor. not sure if 96's had them.

u said that u had the complete engine harness off the 99-00 SI? if so its a plug and play cuz the engine harness and a whole 1 piece design wit the ecu plugs at the end of it so no need to cut and splice anything

here is a link about the Fuel Tank Pressure sensor if u run into that problem

Negative. The 96-98 and 99-00 harnesses are not interchangable. The 96-98 has all three ecu plugs on the engine harness. The 99-00 does not have all of them....in fact the A plug is on the under dash for the 99-00 harness.

To the OP, if you can get away with the OBD2a to OBD2b conversion harness do it. If not, get ready to start depinning / repinning. That state sucks when it comes to REF/BARd. You will need to get all the OBD2b emissions stuff....fuel tank, stuff, etc. from what I remember. Some people get lucky...others have to go the hard route.

Thank YOU! i kept looking at the em1 harness like "wheres the 3rd plug?" so it is apart of the under dash harness?, now if i got the em1's underdash harness, would that work? or would it be too big of a pain? or could i just repin my current harness? what do you suggest? i should be picking up the fuel tank/fuel tank pressure sensor this week and swapping that out. i have just about everything else i think.

Buy the ETM from Helm and start depinning / repinning. The OBD2 pins come out super easy. I would pick up another set of empty plugs so you can depin and then repin into the new connectors....instead of trying to depin all the pins, lose track, etc. I can sell you a set of empty new connectors if you need them. Might as well buy a few new pins too in case you murder some on removal.

yeah, ive de-pinned and re-pinned the plugs before because they got broken. and i actually have 2 extra sets of plugs i picked up at the junkyard. i have the complete Helms for my car. so would i use my original harness? or use the si's harness? because my original harness is chopped up all over.
