b16a2 into 96 dx hatch: obd2a-obd2b question
so, as the title states, im going to be preforming my first swap soon on my little hatch. i just have a question about the wiring, i understand that obd2 is undesirable to everyone on here.. but reason being im keeping it obd2 is because i want to get it BAR'd since i live in california, i also know that everyone says b16's suck and without vtec its the same as a d16 blah blah blah.. but back to my situation.. so my car is obd2a of course, and the motor/harness/ecu is obd2b so i have the original uncut si harness, and p2t ecu, and my question was can i just repin the ecu wires so they go where theyre supposed to, or is there more to it than that? ive went over different wiring pinouts and diagrams and i have a helms to refer to, but i wanted to ask because maybe someone has first hand experience with this swap.. maybe after i get it to pass BAR i will convert to obd1 and run a chipped p28 like everyone else, but for now i need to wire it up as if it were an EM1 from my understanding of how the state ref. works.
if anyone has any suggestions, or knows something i dont, please share.. its my first swap, and i would like for it to go as smoothly as possible.. its my first car, and daily so i cant be without it too long.
Thanks,
Steve.

Re: b16a2 into 96 dx hatch: obd2a-obd2b question
just did this myself
have a obd2a hx
swapped an obd2b si motor
use the obd2A engine harness off of your D series
you'll have to extend the v-tec plugs
and also the o2 sensor plug
IF your D series has an EGR valve (a black can beside your vtec solenoid) you wont use that... then you have a few choices
1. p72(obd2a gsr computer) im currently running this and my b16 runs like SH*T but im running
2. p2t (obd2b si computer) you'll need an OBD2A to OBD2B conversion harness
if you already have the SI computer id do this option but the p2t to the best of my knowledge is not tunable so if you have any future plans you'll need to eventually use option 3 the harness is about 135 on rywire
3. p28 (obd1 sohc vtec computer) make sure its manual then you'll need an obd2A to obd1 conversion harness and ALSO will need to get your p28 tuned to a stock b16 basemap the p28 is about 75to 125 depending
then you'll have 75 in the conversion harness new
and anywhere from 20-50 to get it chipped with a stock b16 base map
im throwing CEL with the p72 and like i said this SUCKS so dont do it
id run the obd2a to B conversion harness with the p2t then you shouldn't be throwing any CEL's
as for the extra plugs just let them hang

Re: b16a2 into 96 dx hatch: obd2a-obd2b question
well from my understanding of CA's state ref. i cant change to obd1 it has to be obd2.
and instead of buying a conversion harness, couldn't i just repin the ecu plugs to how they should be for obd2b? and then run the em1 engine harness? im just a little confused and their isnt much information on the subject since most people want to go obd1 with a chipped p28.. but i want to get it BAR'd and i cant change over to obd1 since my chassis is originally obd2.

Re: b16a2 into 96 dx hatch: obd2a-obd2b question
im pretty good with the whole de-pinning/re-pinning process since i had to replace all the plugs when some genius slammed the door on them and shattered them. hopefully it works out like it should, because from my understanding.. the only place where the plug is changed is at the ecu, the wires still go to where they should.. but theyre just in different spots.
edit:: and thanks for helping me out some, you're lucky you dont have the whole State Ref. thing to deal with. maybe i should move.
