Default Launching at the track

At what rpm's do you guys with the azenis's launch at when your at the track? I was dumping the clutch a 5000 and the tires would not spin, just grip and the car would bog.

Feather clutch instead of dumping

If the tires aren't spinning then launch at a higher rpm until they do.

I tried feathering the clutch but that didnt work and I didnt want to launch that high in fear of breaking something. But I guess I will try higher rpms next time. Also I was running the tires with 34 psi, is that too much?

you dont want to spin off the launch. spinning = slower times

practice feathering the clutch from higher rpm without spinning and you will get nice launches, however your clutch will hate you.

Yes 34 is too much. General idea is to have the softest sidewall possible and lowering pressure to 20 and below should help noticably.

I'm no drag racer, but I think the ideal rpm is between that which your never bogs, and you are able to modualte the clutch to have no wheelhop or excess spin.

Your clutch must be going out because a 5k dump with Azenis should spin no problem unless the track was soaked with traction compound.

The track people were taking real good care of the track. They cleaned it and added vht alot during the four hours I was there. Plus there were only 30 cars running. I have about 30000 miles on my car so the clutch might be going.

Front tire pressure to + / - 25 psi and feathered clutch at around 6000 rpm.

I'd say drop the pressure to sub 20, maybe down to 17 or 18, and don't drop it but barely feather it from 5500-6000 rpm.

Agreed! Dropping the clutch (at, say, 6000rpm or so) will result in this: ...ouch!!!!!

Why bring down the tire pressure if I am already getting enough traction? Or is there another reason for bringing down the tire pressure?

Hey Alex that is why you feather it out of 3k and just step on it. At 3k you wont bog out too much.

Sorry for not calling man. I've been busy. I'll call you later this evening to get my helmet back. LOLOL.

What exactly is entailed in a good aftermarket driveshaft? I certainly don't want to get a new clutch and beat the **** out of it, knowing that the driveshaft holds an equal amount of stress.

Dropping the pressure gives you more traction, so you can launch at a higher rpm without spin.

Azenis can like alot of pressure. Max PSI is 51. Drop them down to sub 20 or even below 30 and i think you'll be scooping out rubber by the shovel full from inside those things. I'd be very carefull. Why not just sell em and get some ET Drag's or if you are lazy NT555R's.

Later.

What were you 60 ft times?
That will help to see if you are getting a proper launch.
