Default Portflow Springs TOO stiff for Skunk2 Stage 2 Cams???

I have a question on a topic that was brought up on another board, but was not aswered yet. The topic was about certain valve springs being TOO stiff for higher lift cams.

Specificly:

I've ordered Skunk2 Stage 2 cams. And Portflow valve springs (was going to get Sunk2 springs, but ImportBuilders is building this engine for me, and Portflow is what they carry). I have heard good things about Portflow, so I thought it would be ok to go with it. And this is going to be my daily driver, so I don't plan on reving the hell out of it (for reliablity and engine life reasons). I won't exceed 9000 or 9500, depending on where the engine is making it's power.

But anway... my question is:

Are these valve springs actually going to be too stiff for these cams. Should I limit my revs to a certain RPM because if this? If so, what should it be.... 9000? or is 9,500RPMs ok?

Thanks for your advice.....

The Portflow springs will workjust fine...
Besides you'll need them if you plan to visit 9000~9500rpm once and a while with the cams you have..

That's what I thought....

but it this thread they were talking about Portflow Springs being too stiff for higher lift applications: http://www.hondavision.com/showthrea...threadid=15947

And I just wanted to make sure that Portflows would work ok with my Stage 2 cams.

Thanks!!

Practically speaking, you CANNOT get valve springs too stiff!

Stiffer valve springs control valve motion better. Valves do "bounce" when they hit the seat. This kills power, and a stiffer spring will better be able to control this.

Stiffer springs do not rob as much power as people think. Sure, it's harder for the cam lobe to lift the valve. But don't forget, for every valve being lifted, there is a valve pushing back down to the seat. The main loss here is friction. Use synthetic oil and you've solved half the problem.

wouldn't way stiffer valve springs cause more wear?

Potentially, yes. But Honda's valvetrain components are extremely wear-resistant. Besides, who gives a damn if your engine won't last 100,000 more miles if it's making 250 HP n/a!?
