What to look for in buying a DC?
I am looking at a dark green 1995 Integra GSR coupe with a 5 speed manual tomorrow and was wondering on what to look for. It is supposedly built from a reliable source and they are asking for $4000.00. I have owned an EF, DA, and EG along with a first and second gen CRX. I live in Minnesota so the common rust in the fenders is obvious. Anything else other than smoke, rust, ticking, bondo, squealing, spark plug coloration, tire wear, leaks, air filter condition, and bad lighting that I should be looking for? Hopefully it isn't riced out or beat on of course. Any advice would be just super.
Do a compression test, or if you can a leak down test to make sure the motor is healthy. The standard for a GSR is usually between 210 and 240. Mine reads 240 across the deck with 1-2 psi variation between the 4.
Test drive the car to see if it shakes, pulls, bucks etc. Drive the car low and high rpm, watch for gear grinds and such. 3rd gear seems to be all to common to go on GSR trannies.
Obviously check for quarter panel rust, dents, scrapes and all that.
Find out how long ago the timing belt and water pump along with the tensioner has been replaced.
And try to get a CARFAX report. $20 is a lot better to spend to get the history than spending $4000 and something pops up on you a little later.
