Hello all,

I just purchased an OBD1 JDM GSR longblock and was wondering if it would be ok to run a USDM OBD1 p72 ecu with it. I know there is a slight difference in compression between the 2 motors but I am unable to find a JDM p72 but see a few US ecu's for sale. Will the difference from 10.0 to 10.6 make a huge difference requiring me to use the JDM ecu?
I appreciate any feedback.

It'll be just fine. The compression difference wont matter in overall performance.

 

You should be fine with the USDM ecu

If you want an JDM GSR ecu I have one, its OBD2 but I have a conversion harness with it also. Just shoot me a PM if your interested

 

I seriously doubt there's any difference in the maps.

It's very difficult to compare the maps directly, keep in mind that the stock tables are tuned to run on different fuel. And a lot of their modifiers are slightly different as well. (the fine tuning for ECT, IAT, etc)

Conclusion, the USDM P72 will run the JDM GSR fine.
I've done it before.

Yeah I wasnt sure if the octane requirements in Japan were higher, but that might explain the higher part-throttle ignition advance on the JDM Bin as well as the obvious higher C/R's from almost every JDM make.
