Default should i use torco sr-5 oil in my b16?

I have a few bolt ons on a jdm b16 170hp, replica narrow header, 3inch intake, alt pulley, ps pulley, omni jdm test pipe, 2.25 catback, i currently use castrol gtx 5w-30 ,

i want to switch to a good oil thats a synthetic and ive seen a dyno of the torco making hp, so would it be ok to switch my motor is good condition besides a leaking vtec soleniod gasket which im going to replace, would anyone recommend this idea? the torco 5w-30 would that be best for the mods and motor ? i figure for the extra 40 bucks a oil change it will prolong the life of the motor

Switching to a better quality oil is always a good idea, what is it you're worried about?

im caught on the mith that synthetic oil will bring out a leak, that was hidden, but i was just thinking its better to bring out the leak and have it fixed then to not know about it, im going to have to order 5 bottles, would you say to change the oil every 7000 miles, and add some if need be?

here is my advice.

the differences in synthetic oils are small enough in a 170hp 4 cyl that if you have to special mail order the ****, its not worth it. that being said, go get yourself some royal purple 5w30. napa carries it. if you cant find that, get the mobil1. if you find some place with your torco on the shelf then go for it.

for an extra 40 bucks per oil change, lets say you do another 8 before you change it. thats 320 bucks.... how much do you think an oem rebuild IS on a B16?

No it isnt. You cannot feel an oil change by the seat of your pants, thats the placebo talkin.

there is a lot of good reading on the net about oils. the synthetic vs dino debate. i personally run redline 5-30. synthetics are really a great idea in the cold climates or in a track environment where film breakdown is a worry.

take some 5-30 dino oil and a real 5-30 synthetic and put it in the freezer over night. pour them both the next day and you can totally see with your own eyes a flow difference. when you consider start up wear creates the majority of damage. starting your car in the winter will make you grab synthetics.

Spending 9 dollars a quart for an oil change in your DD 170hp b16?

I think you need to do a little more research buddy . .

Oh btw, we use regular old $6 a quart castrol synthetic in our 350+ hp , mid 10 sec , all motor street car . . . but your right , you probably need the good stuff for your motor . .

well i have a friend at my local walmart that changes my oil its $55.99+ tax for a synthetic oil change, vaccume and to top everything off, the redline 5w-30 on the shelf was $8.99 a bottle, and they gave me 5 bottles so thats like 50 bucks then ten to change the oil so i figure it's not bad. the redline cleaned the motor you can look in and see everything clear as day and it has a nice film on it
