1985 prelude motor mod suggestions
Hi all. I'm new to this forum and have done some browsing around, but would like some suggestions on modifications for a 1985 honda prelude. I just got it professionally painted and then the motor died (bad pistons--250,000 miles!). Anyway I can get a stock new engine with labor for $1800. But I'm thinking of having the existing motor modified and put back in. I would appreciate some suggestions and/or direction in where to look to get this done. I don't want to go crazy, but I do have a budget of around $3500.
^^Really?? Who makes mounts for that swap?
I have no idea if it's been done or not, but that's going to cost a bit to do I'm sure.
You should try PreludePower.com, they are many more 1st-3rdGen owners there with many more resources and knowledge than what H-T has for those Generations.

I doubt that's what he's looking for.. Specially since he just had it professionally painted.
OP, what are you interested in doing? Making it stock-like? Restoring it to original? Modernizing it? We really do need more info..

Thanks for the replys. This is my first car so it does have sentimental value. I just paid $3500 to have it painted and it looks awesome. I had always planned to add some power to it when the motor went and that time has come. My local mechanic said they is a machinist that does port, polish, bore etc. He said it usually doubles horse power. He quoted me $3k plus new carb exhaust etc. So basically I would like to restore it to original with more power, however would consider a H22 if it would work???
lol, Double HP? I know it's an old motor with very little HP compared to now, but I don't know about double.. But it does depend on what they're going to do..
And you realize how much custom work with have to be done to do an H22 swap??
$3,000 doesn't sound to bad if it includes building, boring, pistons, porting and all new parts including card and exhaust..
You should find out exactly what all is including in his quote though.

I not sure I believe double the HP either--sales pitch! What I'd like to know is what has worked well for others. I want it to be reliable so I don't want to go over the top. I want something that works...I play with 2 stroke snowmobiles and I've bought alot of smoke and mirrors over the years that don't do much---but I have no experience in the auto mod area. Please keep the suggestions coming. Thanks.
Ah well, as I said before, try PreludePower.com. There are many more 1st/2nd/3rdGen owners there that will be able to help you more than anyone here most likely..
Most people only specialize in the 4th/5thGens here.. Only a few 3rdGens.
