Default :::Common Prelude Problems:::

Im just looking for common problems tha occur with the preludes at certain mileage times.
Any tips as to what needs to be changed at certain mileage
Are the motors Reliable for over 200k
Does the SH have a tendency to last longer or shorter than a regular H22. (Regular driving)

Thanks

every motor with every pilot is going to be different. Generally honda engines are built well and last well over 200K if, And IF being key word, it is maintained properly. My 89 prelude had 289000 Ks on its racing motor and would go pretty good even compaired to my current 4th gen sr4ws with only maybe 90k jspec. if you seek longevity look for models with mostly stock parts and know that some punk kid hasn't raced the shiet out of it. Some manuals online show service scheduals for what ever car you are looking to buy. just run a search for them.

if you're talkin about the 5th gens the h22's last awhile dependent on the driver. but for some common problems i've heard or ran into as of now is oil consumption problems at higher mileage h22's, water leaks due to the sunroof/windshield seals, and the front bumper will tend to sag if you fiddle around with it too much. aside from that the 5th gens hold up nicely. again, it's all dependent on the driver.

Here are a few problems, mostly very little problems.

1) The 5th gen auto transmisson is JUNK!
2) If you upgrade your valvetrain, there is a high possibility that your auto tensioner will go out so just swap in the h23 manual tensioner.
3) The cam seals leak oil after a while, just like (I think) most vtec engines.
4) H22 seems to burn oil more than most hondas.
5) 5th gens have some sort of trunk leaks.
6) For SH, the atts malfunctions at high horsepower (250+whp) so if you are thinking of moding your engine a lot, then I recommend the base model.
7) for SH, if you are get a chipped ecu installed then that will disable the atts.

Recommend the SH model if your are strictly trying to do a lot of suspensions mod with I/H/E.

Recommend the base model if you wanna build up the engine and throw in corners once in a while.

Besides that, I think preludes are really nice cars and can last really long if maintained right. They are fun to drive and handle very well.

i don't think there's much else with the 5th gens. they hold up pretty well. if you take care of it that is.

I have had 3 - 4th gens & 1 - 5th gen & like described are pretty reliable when maintained. But, common with the 4th gens I've owned all needed clutch master/ slave cylinder jobs around or after 120k. Also needed gasket/seals like oil pan, valve cover or cam seals. Yeah can also vouch all have had "water in the trunk syndrome" from trunk seals or plugged sunroof drains.

yeah./. i go through calipers like women go through tampons . but on the topic of calipers, (and i know your not suppose to get lubricants near break pads/rotors) but if your calipers are sticking or begin to sieze can you spray a bit of silicon lube where the calipers actuate?
