i got out of school today. and i try to start my car but it didnt start up..wen i tried to start it up it does this long clicking noise..the dude from the campus security said its my alternator..can that be it..he said my battery is fine.

 

im not a mechanic but i did have a similar problem with my civic and it was just a flat battery. is the starter motor turning??

 

ya the starter is fine..i just needa no wut it can be..battery or alternator or something else..i dont wanna buy the wrong thing n it being something else..u no wut i mean

 

Yeah totally, no point wasting money if you dont know whats wrong with it.
i got someone to charge the battery for bout five minutes with some jump leads and it just fired back up. then gave it a full charge overnight an it was fine.not sure what else it could be mate. Alternator or distributor but thats mostly a guess..

 

Can you jump start it? Take your battery to autozone for free testing and work your way down from there.

If it's making that clicking does that not mean that the starter isnt relly getting enough juice to actualy fire the engine? try an get someone to charge the battery a bit with jump leads and if it still doesnt run then it's a totally diffirent problem.

 

if you can get your car to start by jump starting it but it will continue to idle then its the battery because once it has started it is running off alternator power. if the car will start and then dies then it is the alternator.

 

ya..wen i jump start it..it turns on and it idles..so its the battery den?

 

yep the battery is no longer accepting a charge from the alternator
