NOVA people: Where to go for alarm purchase/install?
I'm looking for an alarm for my teg for around $200 + installation. I'm looking at the Autopage and CompuStar systems right now, but would like other suggestions. Where's a good place for not TOOOO much $$$?
Well, $200 is not going to get you much, in my opinion. Installation is everything and could run you as much, if not more, as the alarm you are trying to get for $200. Are you concernced with a top notch install or do you just want an alarm in there. Basic install will run you about $100-120. A more indepth install (brain behind guage cluster or behind rear paneling, black wiring/concealed within factory harnesses, location of sirens, etc) can double that. If you haven't bought the alarm yet you might want to look at a Clifford or Viper. I feel they are a little more reliable. I have done a few installs of compustar and had two come back. Alarm wasn't bought through me so they had to send it back to wherever they got it. Kinda sucks. Anyways, if you want one installed call me at my shop (703.218.1766) Names Kevin. Shop is Tweeter off of Ruote 50. I will be there on Tuesday and Friday. Let me know if you have any questions you need answered
Don't know in NOVA but I agree $200 isn't going to get you all that. I would suggest you go with an entry level brand name alarm and layer some kill switches independan from it. Maybe a fuel cutoff and an ignition or vital sensor signal cutoff. About installation, I would go out of state or at least not to a place in your area and when you have verifide that the instalation is satisfactory pay cash. I'm paranoid so I wouldn't want the place to know what I have to know where I live.
Labor alone for a decent security system will be multiple times more than your $200 in anticipated equipment. If you want decent security, you need to find a good installer and don't be surprised if you have to spend a grand.
kwhitelaw: I'm on the Tweeter payroll too. Can I sell him a full blown alarm? lol

Don't get me wrong, you can get an alarm installed for much, much less... but keep in mind that the alarm is only as good as the install. The harder the system is to disable, the better chances you have to keep your car. You want to make it as it as difficult as possible for them to steal it, so they will leave your car alone. And that takes time.
