Call them and ask. Say that if you bring in the alarm can they look at it and make sure it is good and then ask how much it will cost to install it in your specific car. Look into the above mentioned price range or higher.
I think Circuit City, Best Buy, Good Guys and such wont touch things they didnt sell you such as used items, or items they dont normally carry.. their installers arent all that anyway.. your better off going to a REAL car audio/alarm shop... depending on what features you want it should cost about $100-150 +/-
im assuming he's just lookin at the standard features for the 550ESP which includes:
remote start
door lock/unlock
parking light flash
ghost/hidden switch
starter kill
double guard shock sensor
6 tone siren
LED
door triggers
then programming all the features like auto arm, ignition controled door locks, starter kill, etc..)..

It depends on where you want the brain stashed and how badly you want to keep your car. For a basic alarm with a couple of extra sirens, it could range anywhere from $100 to $1000, depending on how much time the installer spends on the installation and how well the components are hidden.

excately!! what's the point of even having an alarm if it's just a pos install that can be easily bypassed?? you just wasted your $100 or so for nothing.. spend a bit more and get a NICE install.. hidden brain/wiring, battery backed, diode isolated, etc..
and don't just rely on the alarm.. LAYER!! kill switches, hood lock, etc.. that's if you really care about the safety of your car..

yeah and if you really care about your car go to a REAL car audio/alarm shop.. not circuit city or best buy... a real car audio/alarm shop can do a better stealthier installs than those chain stores... I've helped friends take apart there cars w/ Circuit City installs.. once you drop the dash.. everything is right there, brain, shock sensor, relays, etc.. in plain view.. you could even see them if you stuck your head by where the pedals are..
