Default 1990 CRX w/ DOHC ZC hood washers and COLD engine temps

I've got a 1990 CRX Si. I have a DOHC ZC in it... swapped to poly incerts in the stock motor mounts... had to put the fan on a manual switch... cut out the hood webbing but still needed to use washers.

I cant get the temperature to read much past cold. it sits a lot lower than it used to. Sure its winter time, but i didnt think that propping the hood for clearance would keep the engine this cool. I dont even have to turn the fan on... if i do, i can drive the 45 minutes home, and put my hand right on the radiator.

Is there anything inherintly bad about keeping it running this cool? i cant really think of any other than my heat doesnt work worth a damn any more! Maybe i'm just parinoid, i've been blowing up motors consistantly for 4 years now...

well put a piece of card board in front of the radiator, that way driving in the cold dont cool it down, and then go from there man. In winter thats what a lot of people have to do

my first thought is a bad thermostat.. staying wide open. not letting the coolent warm up before it opens and allows the coolent to flow through the radiator..

but if u have ur hood up in the back with washers, ever heard of cowl induction? it really does cool it down alot..

OK i know the answer...

like that guy above me said...thermostat.
i had to replace 2 thermostats on my crx and my friends del sol because the heater wouldnt work. the temperature guage always stayed at C.
the temperature guage is located on your engine, its hiding inside the lowest hose from the radiator. i guarantee u its busted. lucky for u all u gotta do is buy a new thermostat and coolant, drain the radiator and unplug the hose going into the engine and you'll see that little sucker. just replace it and your temperature guage should start working ( as well as your heater )

hmm.

i have a dohc zc and the temp gauge read that its over heating. haha.

but anyways. what i did for hood clearance without flaring the hood, is i took the upper timing belt cover off, and still cut the hood frame thing. [this is usdm oem hood]

it was opperating normally until i did the poly incerts. When i did that i had to prop the hood and now it run super cool. I do get warm air through the vents, but its not the massive killer heat i was used to. I really dont think its a mechanical issue at all.

I didnt know propping the hood would cool it that much AND i didnt know if there was some negative to having the motor run that cool that i havent thought about.
