How To Install A Timing Belt?
I have a 97 Integra and I need some gudaince on how to place a timing belt on the car and take the old one off any pics or intructions would be great
Thanks!
Thanks!
i would suggest to use a documentation for that, u can get one from teamintegra. it has really good instructions how to do it including how go apply proper tension on the belt.
instead of following suggestions that can be useful too, but there would b always little details missing that are very important. i can summ the procedure in general so u would have an idea
you will need new belt and new belt tensioner with new spring
raise the car
support motor from the bottom
adjust crank to TDC
remove driver side engine mount and torque mount (just 2 bolts)
take off all belts from pulley (alt, ac, ps)
remove pulley
remove engine covers
check TDC and how cam gears align before u remove the belt
remove valve cover
insert 2 nails or drill bits into (gsr rails, ls cam camps) slots to support cams in TDC position
remove timing belt and tensioner
install new tensioner (hand tighten it)
install new belt (there is a sertain patten u need to follow to install it, illustrated in manual)
check TDC and if everything aligns as it used to be
tighten 14mm tensioner bolt
remove cam supports
crank the crank counterclockwise few times to set the belt
loosen 14mm tensioner bolt half way (half revolution)
crank the crank counterclockwise 3 teeth on the cams (this forces tensioner to self adjust tension of the belt)
holding the crank after last revolution tighten tensioner bolt
install everything back together
when installing the crank u need to oil the bolt's threads and outside of the washer, and torque the bolt twice (im not sure what's the toque specs)

If you want to work on your own car, you should really get yourself a copy of the factory service manual. You can sometimes find used ones on ebay or in the marketplace forums, or you can buy a new one here.
