Default Headlights caught on fire....

ok well i was driving on a dark road so i had my high beams on for a long time, because it was a long road. I get to my house and i see the the passenger headlight glass is all black, and looks burnt, and its very foggy. So i took out the lights and the low beams were fine but the high beam light is all black and smokey. So now how can i clean my headlight i got most of the fog/smoke out, but it is still foggy, and the big black mark is making me mad. Is there any way i can take out the glass so i can clean it out? any ideas

yes, remove all the metal clips and brackets from the housing, pop it in the oven on low 150-250 for 5-10 minutes (be carefull and watch it) this will heat the glue that bonds the glass enought to pull it off of the housing. make sure to seal back up good with something that can handle some heat and rain (outdoor rated)

you should also make sure there is'nt a problem with the high beams, check the voltage and the wiring.

btw the housing is plastic so it may have melted/burned the reflective coating, hopefully not though.

if it's just smoke soot inside you don't have to remove the lens. Just take the headlight out and pour a couple ounces of denatured alcohol in and shake till it all dissolves. Dump it out and let it dry then re install.

Its not hard, you should get a book on your car like a chiltons or haynes(tell's you alot about taking parts off). But there is the top adjuster bolt/screw you take out then one screw in the middle on the bottom, two on the out side edges and then you have two on the inside back like close to the rad. on the bottom. Then pull a little and it should come out after you have taken out the bulbs to. That should be it if you look around the housing you will notice all the screws.
