Anyone ever use a DSM tranny cooler as an oil cooler? I picked one up for free locally, and I wanna use it as an oil cooler. Any thoughts?
uhhh, automatic transmissions usually see far more pressure and heat than your oil pump produces. yes it will be fine. Are you sure it was a trans cooler and not a power steering cooler though? sorry not to familiar with dsms and what they come equipped with. some cars have them some dont

The guy I got it from said it was a automatic tranny cooler, pulled off a 2nd Gen DSM. I dont think DSMs came with P/S coolers...

My trans flush machine has a pressure gauge on it. From time to time I come across a car the pushes around 100psi (toyotas are especially high). Use your better judgement though, I dont have the cooler in front of me so I cant tell how thick the pipes are. If your that concerned about it, pick up a oil cooler off a chevy pickup truck at the junk yard, or get on some dsm forums and see if you can find the specs for how much pressure goes through their lines....or just buy a new one, they're pretty cheap.
One other thing to think about is using an oil tstat for your cooler, heres the faqs
