Default Is Radiator Different in Auto Than Stick

Hey guys,

I have a 93 civic with a manual tranny. I have a radiator from an auto that I want to put in. I know it has the ports for the transmission fluid cooler, can I just plug those or do I need to get the manual tranny radiator?

Thanks,
Chad

Stay safe, get the right radiator.... im sure some may tell you to cap em, some may not. Easier to just eliminate the worries. IMO

In many cases, it the same part number, OEM and aftermarket. You can check your specific model here:

Hmm. So I can just throw a couple caps on that line then huh? That sounds good. Anybody ever done this?

Yes, you can put an auto rad in a manual car. The trans cooler just flows through the bottom, if you don't hook it up it does nothing and does no harm.

I have done this before, if it makes you feel any better

no problem, I'm all about not buying parts if you have used stuff you can rig up to work

oh, just be sure to drain it out real well before you install it, you don't want to leave a trail of transmission fluid on the driveway if you don't cap them off properly...

Numerous times. My own civic has been like that for years.

You can easily use the auto radiator for a manual car. However, if you are buying a new radiator, I recommend a 95 Del Sol Vtec one. They are a direct replacement but with a dual core design. They are excellent for better cooling for future mods.

So does the tranny fluid run through the radiator, or does the coolant run through the auto tranny with the OEM radiator? Do I need to cap off these outlet pipes?

The transmission fluid runs through the rad, you don't even really need to cap the holes, nothing is going to leak. All the transmission cooler is, is a piece of brass pipe that runs through the lower rad tank.
