Default help my bro

Guys, my brother has an 04 rsx type s aspec. He wants to lower his car a little more. I recommended the HnR sport springs because I have good experience with it in my EK. I was wondering what shocks would you recommend to him. He's not looking for anything adjustable. he's not a racer or anything. just wants near OEM quality ride with a lower drop. Ideas?

Tokico blues or Kybs but you should read up on the suspension of the DC5 as it is a little tricky... also he probably has one of the best suspension out there right now! The A Spec is very good suspension if not the one of the best for the car before going to a full coilover of course!

1.4 in the front and 1.3 in the rear as stated by H&R website. not too bad is it?

That is a good drop. I had H&R sport springs on my EH6 and loved them. Nice ride and good handling increase. Cant say for the DC5 though.

You might as well tell him to get shocks like Dave said, and top hats as well to complete the suspension set and then sell the a-spec suspension. Would probably pay for a good chunk of what he is getting. I would get koni yellows because they allow for a little rid adjustment, not an adjustable coilover but allows for 1/2 inch higher and 1/2 inch lower.

H&R is good... Good experience with cars I've been in. Same with Eibach. Eibach never fails to make a spring that I like.

Stick with name brand stuff and don't be afraid to pay top dollar for premium stuff. Koni struts are good. I have them on my EP and really like them. I never adjust them though unless I know I am going somewhere where I can really benefit from it. My girlfriend would probably like it a little better if I toned them down when we go places. Oh well.

I prefer the Koni Yellows myself too because I like to play around with the adjustments when I am at the track... but for the OP i dought he will ever touch them so better to get something like the Tokico blues...

good point. Yellows are not necessarily cheap.

Thanks guys. Any comments on the "tricky" installation as someone above stated? I read somewhere that you have to modify the front shocks by cutting to install a cartridge. Ideas?

Dave was referring to choosing the correct suspension is tricky. Like I said, I would purchase the top hat and rest of suspension to complete the setup. So you would have shocks/struts, spring, top hat, bumpstop. put all together and just swap out the aspec with your new setup.

so... 10,18,9,7,2,8

they can, however there are a lot of people that want the aspec setup. so if you get the extra parts you could sell the aspec setup as a whole.

Also dont know if you have ever taken a suspension assembly apart. You need to rent a spring compressor to get the hat off. This is a pretty big pain. If you got the parts aboe you would be able to take the aspec off and then put your new in. So just swap them.

Also if your buddy was ever going to sell the car you could hang onto the apsec and swap it back in easily.
