EGR port cleaning estimate....
Ok so I've done some fairly extensive reading up on the supposed "dramatic" increase in performance that many have experienced by having their egr ports cleaned. I know I need this done as I have noticed some hesitation and decreased gas mileage lately and the glaringly obvious one...I am now throwing a code for "insufficient flow" related to the EGR.
I've been quoted anywhere from $120-$150 dollars for the job. My question is this....do those number jive with what others have paid and is there anything else related to that repair that you could recommend being done at the same time ? A few months ago I had a full tune up (cap-dizzy-rotor-plugs-wires etc...) , timing belt , water pump , valve adjustment done , just as a back history.
Any help is appreciated.....
Oh and also , I just picked up brake pads for all 4 wheels and am currently shopping around for 4 rotors as well. Any suggestions there ? I'm not looking to break the bank just a decent set of OEM type replacements.

Thanks for the response.

I see they sell the Brembo model as well , I have read a lot of good things about them but worth $35 bucks more ?

I would love to tackle this project myself to save some dough but the scope of my abilities starts and ends with changing oil and brake pads....LOL
I found a nice PDF file a while back that maps the whole process really nicely but still I am apprehensive. Anybody else have the EGR ports cleaned by a dealer or shop ? Cost ?
I did them myself...but I've got a bit of a larger scope of abilities.
It isn't really that huge of a deal, but if it were me, I'd definitely remove the IM to do the job. Honestly the worst part of the whole ordeal is getting the excess paper gasket scraped off the head before you put it all back together.
If you're comfortable with drilling the plugs out and not accidentally gouging the IM in the process, you'll probably be ok.

It was a settlement for 1995-1997 cars. So '01 won't be covered.

Took 2ish hours for me the first time to clean the EGR valve and ports. Had to buy a new EGR valve gasket, new port plugs and a slide hammer. If you do it yourself, I would recommend removing the fuel rail and fuel injectors so that getting to those holes will be easier. Up to you to decide whether or not you'd want to pay for someone else to do it, but it's an easy job.
As for rotors, any should be good. For my '98 Lude, I've got Brembo blanks up front and some god unknown brand rotors in the rear. Axxis pads all around. Those things dust like crazy forcing you to clean your wheels like every other day.
I have a pair of Brembo blank rotors for the rear but they do not fit my '98. Don't know if it'll fit your car but it's part #25686 from Brembo

I actually did this very thing last week. You need to run down to pep boys and pick up some of their throttle body cleaner. Take off the EGR and you might see that it is covered in gunk (theres your problem). spray some of the cleaner and you should see the crap just melt off. You can use a toothpick or a cotton swab to helf scrape all crapp off and it should a fairly good clean. Also, remove your intake, open the throttle and spray some of the cleaner in the throttle. Immediately you should feel a difference in performance and gas mileage.
