Default fitv question

i have been having idling problems with the surging up and down only after th car warms up. so i cleaned the iacv and went to open my fitv up and it doesn't look like all the write ups i've seen on the net about screwing the white plunger looking thing all the way back down on my d16a6. on mine there is two screws holding top metal piece on and then there is just a spring in side with a black circular piece at the bottom that pushes the needle thing down. so are the fitv on d16a6 not fixable if they go bad or is there anyway to adjust them because it seems like on every other motor you can adjust it by screwing the little white thing back down. can someone help me out with this.

Default Re: fitv question

the d16a6 does not have a fitv. what you were playing with is the ficsv (fast idle control solenoid valve). a fitv raises/regulates idle at cold startup and uses only coolant to do so. the white thermowax plunger expands and contracts relative to coolant temperature, and allows a large amount of air by when its fully open. the ficsv is not the same and is only used when temps drow below 14 degrees fahrenheit. It only lets in a small amount of extra air in when its actually in use. it does this electronically and is signalled to kick on via information received from the ecu and IAT sensor.

your idle issue most likely has to do with either the iacv itself, the iacv figure 8 shaped seal, or a vaccum leak.
