i had to buy a new license plate since my old one got mutilated in a car accident. So my question is... is there just nuts and bolts that hold that license plate onto the front bumper? I thought there were some clips that hold the license plate together also since that's what i saw on my old license plate...

 

what car? My car came with a plastic frame from the dealer.. what year? pretty sure you just need two screws.. some have a bracket, but don't think all cars came with them.. depends where you bought it from

 

To have it 'proper' you need #9 and #3. But you don't need the plastic backing. You'll need the bolts #23 and the nuts #4.

I hate how cars look with front plates...ive gotten 3 front plate tickets, the first i was doing 83 in a 65 and i was honest with the State Trooper, so he gave me a front plate ticket only if i assured him i would plead guilty...I did and it was a $125 fine...(MUCH better than the 4+ points, insurance, fines,etc.) the other 2 that i got, neither cop showed up to court. DISMISSED....ive asked 2 other cops that pulled me over if they honestly were pulling me over because of my front plate, and when they said yes i told them thats ridiculous and they much more important things to take care of...after about 5 minutes of talking to them and finding out they REALLY pulled me over just to check me out, they let me go....

I just use those plastic screw things that hold the various random plastic shields on the car. Like these, only with the philips head end on them:

Those metal braket / nuts (#4 in pic above) seem to get lost or damaged a lot.
