Default Turbo Wastegate

I have spent yesterday and today installing my turbo in my 97 EX. I have got all the piping in, the intercooler mounted, all the connectors and clamps on, the manifold and turbo in and the oil feed line connected at the top and the turbo connected to the piping, and the hole drilled and the IAT plugged in.

I don't know how to connect the wastegate. I have a opening for it on top of the manifold but I dont know which opening on the wastegate goes into the manifold. One side is open while the other side has a spring loaded valve in the hole.
pics are as follows.

How do i put this on and where do i run the vacuum lines? i have a bunch of t-connectors but idk what to connect them to.

The bottom side with the spring loaded valve connects to the exhaust manifold. The open side will route to your exhaust (or dump tube).

i believe that diagram is for people who use electronic boost controllers not manual boost controllers.

you swap the ports if your using a manual boost controller in relation to an electronic controller

ya but i still dont understand the diagram. i dont see any pressure port on my turbo. Its an external wastegate. And what line on the intake manifold does it connect to, and then which one does the BOV connect to, and then where does the boost controller go? in between the connector with the intake mani and the wastegate on the t clamp? does anyone have pics of it done in their car?

if you dont have the port on your turbo you will have to use a vac source from your intake manifold. The mbc will go in the line from the mani to the side port on the waste gate. The bov will also go to the intake manifold.

k so which one is the vac on the intake mani? is it the one that comes from the PCV? from your post i got that it goes like this.
IM Vac->T-Connector->MBC->WG
->BOV

And what about for a boost gauge? i have another t connector that came with the gauge so where in the line do i put that?

you can use the line going to the fpr,pcv or the brake booster, you boost gauge will also go to the intake manifold. You may want to look into getting a vacuum manifold makes it easy and cleaner install.

Take the fitting off the top of the WG, and thread it in the side hole. Thats your actuator hole to regulate boost (leave the top hole open, thats for an electronic boost controller). Since you dont have a hole tapped into your turbo's compressor housing, you are gonna have to use vacuum as a reference source for your WG (I hope you dont have a TiAL, because a pressure source is recommended for those, not a vacuum source, and I assume youre NOT gonna tap your compressor housing).

Run a 1/4" I.D. rubber vacuum line from a dedicated source on your intake manifold (let tee-ing off be your alternative choice), run that line to the fitting on your WG, and BAM, youre done. Im assuming you dont have a boost controller, but if you do, post up a pic of it, as different manual boost controllers have their inlet and outlet fittings flip-flopped in location. (ie: Blox Pro & Turbo XS)

Oh, and be sure your WG fire ring is installed with the stepped side TOWARDS the WG, and the flat side towards the turbo manifold flange. As you evenly tighten the bolts, the fire ring should sink, and the two flanges will become evenly flush.

Yes i did that. I have a boost controller. I put a T from the line that the FPR plugs into, so it goes like this.
IM->T->FPR
->T->Boost Controller WG Connector->WG
->T->BOV
->T->Boost Gauge
And the other side of the Boost Controller is open (my friend said one of the lines is supposed to be open?)
Boost controller has 2 lines on it, and it comes with a T connector itself. One side of it goes to the Boost Controller and the other goes to the Wastegate. leavign the outbound of the boost controller open.
Is it supposed to be like that or is my friend wrong?

Post a pic. It may be a knock-off Hallman style MBC.

so if you have a hole on your compressor housing you can just connect the line from compressor to the hole in the side of the tial westgate correct?
