Default 1990 restoration project

Alright.. Picking up a 1990 hatch dx. First things first, I'd like to replace the carpet. Found some places online, but nothing specific to the hatchback. Any ideas? Also, what about new floor mats? Is there anything thats not cheesy I can use? Also, you guys with the carbon fiber hoods. How do they hold up and look after time? I'm not looking to creat a show car. I prefer more of a sleeper/oem ride, but I'm taking the whole weight thing into consideration.

That oem hatch hood is very light, say compared to a 240sx or something. The carbon fiber would help on weight but so would putting your girlfriend on a diet. I mean it's more for show.
So, what kinda engine are you wanting to run to make you a sleeper?
just wondering; my b18 wagon is what i think is a sleeper...
+11bagillion for restoration not ricification

I personally think carbon fiber hoods look awesome. But i have one and you have to take really good care of them. Mine has little cracks in it. If you get a carbon fiber hood, go with the best. and be very careful with it

yeah, the carbon fiber hood isn't bad but to me it's not really worth the effort and time to maintain the damn thing. The dude that had the car before me put a b16a1 in the car. I would have rather had a b18c1 but I think I'm going to stick with what I have now. If I blow it up, I'll get the b18. I'd like to see in the 12 second range. I have a good tune shop near my school, so once I sell my bike and pay off the loan I'm going to drop it off there and have them pull the motor. Maybe after some new internals and a turbo I'll be able to reach my goal??? The guy I work with has an 2005 c6 corvette and he always trash talks my mustang so I'm coming back with something he wouldn't expect. You guys think I'll have a chance?? Back to the topic....I'd like to replace the carpet, so I'll check out JC. I'd like to get some honda mats though. Thanks guys.

haha. I don't know man. The last time I was into imports was about four years ago when I had my crx. Ever since I sold it I've been dying to get another one. Well, this hatch came along, the body is in good shape and I figured the b16 was a good start. Apparently I'm expecting a little too much out of this. Is it possible to have a mid 12 sec boosted b16 that isn't a time bomb? Excuse my ignorance, I'm not looking for a race car, just something a little impressive.

b18/b20 huh? I guess I should look into that. I'm willing to spend the cash, I just don't want to get in over my head. As it is I'm not mechanically inclined, so I'd be relying on my local tune shop to do the motor work. I know I'm going to get busted on for that from you guys, but hey... I've heard nothing but good things about the place so we'll see. Any more solid information is greatly appreciated. Good to be back to the honda scene!

if you get a carbon fiber hood just paint it to match the car. the clear coat is the problem with CF, the paint for the clear coat on the new corvette cost something like a (EDIT) 2 thousand dollars per gallon! and one thing to keep in mind is that CF parts dont usually line up with the other panels perfectly .

thanks a lot for the heads up, much appreciated. I think I'm going to completely phase that idea out.

If you're not looking to create a show car, but you're concerned about weight, then you should probably look into a fiberglass hood. Most fiberglass hoods will weigh roughly the same as the majority of carbon fiber hoods out there (nearly all of which use fiberglass skeletons by the way), but come in at a much lower cost.

Now that I think about it, wouldn't I want the extra weight over my front wheels??

I have pictures now.. Shows what needs to be done, like all wheel disc brakes, smaller wheels, seats, steering wheel, shifter, cluster, tail/headlights, paint and more power. I've never posted pictures before, lets see if this works...

also, he said something about the axles slipping out of the transmission when the wheel was turned all the way??? wrong axles? Also, the car backfires at 2500rpm. It won't rev any higher and he seems to think it's the distributor, or "dizzy." Will it be hard to find a distributor for a b16a1?

Try the junk yard, or the parts store. Also if you don't want them big wheels I got a set of 14" 5 spoke rims I would be willing to trade u plus some cash if you want.

As far as the rear brakes go, I wouldn't do them. I got all my stuff to do it, all new crap and it was EXPENSIVE and if you search around, the drums are usually a bit stronger. The discs just cool better and look better.... money would be better spent elsewhere for now anyway imo

really... I was kindof looking foward to that upgrade. Fastbrakes has the kit for 1400, didn't seem to horrible to me. Stainless steel lines, calipers and pads...rotors. You're not happy with the outcome at all huh? BTW I just purchased jdm headlights, clear corners and taillights from some dude from Hong Kong. Sounds legit to me. Thinking about purchasing the front and rear bumpers and supports from passwordjdm. The maroon hatch on their gallery is my goal I'm shooting for.
