Guys - I looked for posts on this but couldn't really find anything and i know how much you like to talk about things so here goes the questions.
I can't really afford a turbo kit or supercharger so i was thinking about a cold air intake to get more 'suck' out of the whole 'suck / bang / blow' theory. they are affordable and they say you might gain a few horse power and a better sound but I'm sure somebody out there has added it to their S2000 and I wanted to see what you thought. So post back plz.

i doubt the gains are sufficient, with that said, however, i bought one for two reasons. 1. It cleans up the engine bay A LOT and 2. It does sound really good. Am i gaining 5 hp? Probably not, but my throttle response did improve and it was only 200 bucks so to me it was worth it
I wouldn't expect more than 5 whp but it's not a bad mod. the sound in VTEC will be awesome and if you ever go FI down the road it'll be easy to sell. I personally wouldn't go too crazy on all motor mods, there's not a lot to be gained from headers and exhaust and it gets pricey.

yo what is hydrolock? is that when water gets sucked into your engine from the outside where the cold air intake is? i heard they fixed that so it wouldn't happen anymore. i had a cold air on my '00 civic si and didn't have any trouble w/ it. but good looking out.
as far as types of intakes i was trying to figure out the difference of the reg. AEM v/s the V2 version ... anyone know about that? and does anyone have pics of their engine bays after taking all that plastic out using the cold air intake... holla back.

i think your s2000 is as low if not lower than the civic which means more chance of hydrolock. By-pass valves are not standard but an option on most intake systems that dump water if it goes up the intake. Definitely worth the extra 15 bucks or so.

i'd say buy a filter, n go to home depot n buy some pipe... have them bend it or watever n there u go! haha CAI for under 100 bux!
am i cheap or wat guys?

your home depot has a pipe bender?
and yes...they fixed the problem of suction, it no longer exists
about hydrolock, just be smart and watch what you go through, i have a more retarded intake setup then most, and in FL i've not hydrolocked

I love my Comptech... I had an injen but it doesnt compare! And it sits in the engine bay so no worry of hydro lock. Its a cold air because it uses the cars ducting. Its pretty much BA!
Complete BS. You only get hydrolock by being a complete idiot.
Way to be smart and avoid hydrolock:
- Don't drive through a big puddle of standing water.
- Don't sit submerged in a big puddle of standing water (keeping in mind, this has to be one hell of a puddle, at least 6 inches of standing water; and trust me I know, my car was slammed (more than most on here) and I had no issues when I had a CAI)
- There is 1 hole in the front passenger fender that you NEED to cover with a rubber blocker or some clear tape. The reason you need to block this hole is because it will drop water onto the filter and that's where water is channelled when you're getting rained on. Most people fail to do this, hence people complaining about hydrolock on the S.
- Finally, when you cut the fender liner in order to place the intake piping where it needs to be, don't become a madman and hack it to shreds. If you're smart you'll trim the fender lining just enough for the intake piping to get into the next area it needs to be which is right under the headlight.
With the wheel taken off, you should only see one little bend section of the intake. If you can see beyond that, then you've trimmed too much.

It's a great idea. In essence they are all filters on a stick. What you're paying for is the name on the side of the piping.
i went with the j's racing tsuchinoko intake - it's awesome - probably one of the best gaining intakes out there. It is pricey though, which is no problem for me as i am considerably richer than you.
I do believe this has been covered.... The factory intake system on the S2000 is very, very well deigned! Nothing like intakes found on lower end Honda's. By removing the factory airbox you will induce a great deal hot air into your engine bay and degrade overall engine performance. The best upgrade on a stock computer is the factory airbox mod, a high flow factory replacement filter, and a snorkel.
As far as performance goes, I believe I saw some test that showed the K&N FIPK had the greatest gains over other intakes. Keep in mind this does not take into effect the greater under hood temps cause by the removal of the factory airbox.

bear in mind that to truly test an intake, a rolling road will not give the same result as increased wind speed - not great dyno mods, but good actual mods.
the throttle response is where its at, you wont feel any difference. vtec will pop louder and the car will sound better though.l
^^ that wasn't my experience at all - sound was no difference, vtec comes on a little stronger/more noticeable, throttle response was sharper, and the car pulled stronger in the mid rev range prior to vtec.
and no, i have no dyno data to back this up.
