When you brake hard, they tend to go, you know?

My father got about 65k on his dxg sedan before I had to replace his front pads and adjust the rear drums. Even then there was still some pad left up front but the brakes started squeaking for lack of lubrication. On my ex coupe I only have like 5000miles so there is almost no wear but I plan on pulling my stock pads out and putting Hawk HPS all around when its warm.

Do you coast in neutral when braking? You'll probably only need to change the fronts.

Well if your brakes are going down hill at 16xxx, what else are you going to do?

that sounds about right to me too, of course i got a DC5 S but i like to ride out in neutral alot to save gas not matter how little it maybe so i dont sit on my brakes too often, plus i dont speed too much either, i think you can about 36k miles before changing, 65k? i dont see why not either, but 16k? thats about 1 years worth of driving (for me cause i drive alot) and your pads are done? i feel it should be just alittle bit more, but who am i to judge, right ... change them if they need to be and play it safe, never take the risk, thats the real advise that should be heard here ... dont worry about the mileage on them just make sure they do their job ... good luck ...

yeah i thought 16k was a little quick. i checked all my pads when i did my tire rotation and the fronts already hit the indicator so it was making some sound and the rear looks like i only got 50% left. i guess i'm just on the brakes too much. anyways thanks for all your insight.

If your trying to save gas by putting it in Neutral and coasting in neutral coming to a stop your actually wasting gas. If you leave it in gear and engine brake the injectors shut off, the car's momentum is turning the engine.

interesting, does this include manual cars too, how bout being drive-by-wire since im driving a DC5, does it make a difference ??? am i asking too many questions ... i think we need more examples and explanations, i dont doubt the video but it only covers the r18 as apposed to the variety of k series motors, and it involves an automatic, i dont know many people who put their car into neutral when driving their automatics just to coast down a hill, being in gear most of the time (i dont really feel 6th gear) slows down the momentum of a manual vehicle more then it does an automatic and i think we can agree that coasting down hill without being in gear may actually increase our speed because of the laws of physics ... now im not doubting this video or your statement, i would just like more information ... thats all, thanks ...

It applies to manual cars also. When you cruise in neutral, fuel is consumed to keep the engine running. Keeping the car in gear, as Josh222 eluded to, will cut fuel consumption because the car's momentum is driving the wheels which in turn keeps the engine running by suspending fuel input from the injectors. I used to think the opposite also.

I've been trying to tell people this forever lol. And not only does engine braking save gas, it also saves your brakes when you don't ride them, as the OP does.
