Driver's side torque mount issue
I've recently purchased a 98 hb with a gsr swap. The drivers side torque mount, the one that bolts to the underside of the frame, has only one bolt tightened. The other bolt is there, but the nut inside the frame, or whatever is there is stripped or broken. The bolt cannot be tightened or removed. Is there any way to fix this? I'm considering having the mount welded to the frame since it can be removed other ways, any thoughts on what to do?
If the nut is loose inside the frame rail you could cut a small openning in the frame and have it welded back in place. if it is stripped then I would do the same thing remove the bolt open the frame rail and replace the damaged nut then weld the frame rail closed again
I'm not a welder myself and will take it somewhere to have done correctly eventually. Would it be a bad idea to make the hole myself, only large enough for a wrench, and tighten the bolt down and leave the hole for awhile? If so, which side, engine or wheel well, whould it be smarter to come from? Thanks.

I updated the sizes, I checked my taps and bolts and they are correct.

Actually, if it's stripped, you can drill and tap up to the next size bolt. I can't remember the numbers perfectly, but I had to do the same to my hatchback. The original size is something like a 12x1.25 bolt. You need to get the correct drill and tap for a 14x1.25 (or 1.5). Drill it and use the larger bolt. This is much easier than cutting the frame and welding a new nut in there.
When I get home from work, I'll check the bolt sizes and update this post. Send me a PM to remind me.

Any time you see a bolt that big, it's going to have something behind it to hold it in place. There's no way sheet metal is going to hold onto anything more than a small screw. Even the bolt holes that hold the fenders on have a nut welded onto the back side.
When one of my bolt holes stripped out, I was a little concerned. I didn't want to have to weld in a new nut. I did mine a year ago and it has worked out very well.
