Icon3 B18c1 Intake mani/Header/ebay question(s)

So basically I recently purchased a 96 GSR, 77k mi, pristine condition, type R conversion, yadayadayada...

Anyway, I've been doing all the maintanance, cleaning everything up, and in all honesty the car is in great shape. Just changed the oil and trans fluid, she runs like a dream.

I was talking to a buddy of mine who is pretty reputable when it comes to honda (had a backyard build 10 second CRX, lsvtec turbo) and he was telling me with minimal parts, and a good tune, my 96 GSR could be flirting with 300 hp, and dip easily into the 12's. For a daily driver, if this car hit the 12's I wouldn't put another penny in, except to maintain it.

What he listed was:
Intake Manifold(Skunk2, Venom, or a copy type)
Header
Crome, Neptune (a good Jeff Evans tune)
Maybe a little bit bigger injectors
Sticky clutch

The skunk2 price isn't bad, ebay on that. But I need some advice/help elsewhere. I have read alot, and the SMSp header seems to be everyone's "weapon of choice" but that BNIB price is crazy, and I'm not on a "budget" per se, but 700-1000 dollars for a header...whoa...the hytech/Tri-Y/TypeR copy headers can't flow enough? I'm looking for some feedback here...

As for the intake mani, do the ebay copies work or...? I was a part of the dsm world, and had an almost 400 hp dsm, with a LOT of ebay parts, and didn't have any problem. Alot of those guys just liked the name to have it, but my ebay type S bov, ebay piping, and ebay turbo(after i took it apart, inspected the flapper and made sure it was right) made 382 horse @ 88% IDC.

are these ebay copies really that bad in the honda world, I mean I don't see too many guys on here talkin about megan racing, or cx racing, or anything like that, where as, on my dsm, anything that wasn't a moving part could be ebayed. I mean 2.5 inch intercooler piping is the same, from greddy or from timmy on the corner as long as it's bent correctly. just trying to get some feedback because i want this integra to be clean, and quick, and built CORRECT.

thanks guys.

With the parts you listed you would be "flirting" with maybe 170 hp to the wheels. Only way you are going to touch 300 is to boost it. Ebay "copies" are not that bad. My Blox supported 200 whp. A lot of the copied headers make the power, just some of them tend to crack depending on which replica you buy.

Well for the IM i would go ahead and suggest Skunk2 its the best bang for your buck, get the gen1 type R replica.
For the header, the best deal is to get in touch with VTECKIDD, just search his name, find his sale posting on narrow style RMF headers, they are the cheapest for the most horsepower.
As for ECU's i would suggest a phearable.net one, its so easy you just list your mods and what you want and they send it to you.
You should not need injectors but for a good N/A past 200hp, i use 310s -440s
And last of all you always should have a sweat clutch, for that is how you get your real power to the ground.

it's gotta be more than 170...the car makes more than 170 stock...you gotta be able to make almost 250-300 without boost...my boys sohc made 197 with crome, headers, exhaust, intake, and cams.

and as for cracking...im not saying ur wrong its just ive heard alot about cracking but i seen a number of cars with ebay/SSAC turbo kit making alot of power and never cracked...idk...

Do no confuse stock 170 bhp to 170 whp.
250 whp on a stock sleeved gsr is nearly impossible for an NA build.

Here is a post from another forum by a h-t member. You may have some better luck with other replicas, but members have also had issues fitting the header on to the head.

GARBAGE! Attempting to see what they're going to do about this now....

i also doubt you will get to 170whp with those mods. the injectors aren't needed till near 200whp. as for the header and manifold. you will gain some hp but i really doubt you will get 20-25hp which is what it would take to get a GSR to 170..roughly. type r cams aren't at all a hard install since you just move your intake springs to the exhaust and buy new intake springs from honda. the edelbrock performer x is the best 8500 and under NA manifold. more compression and cam is really how you start making NA power.
